Master Teacher Program. The application to attain, designation of, or lack of Master Teacher status shall have no bearing on the evaluation, employment status, pay or teaching assignment of any bargaining unit member. No teacher shall be required or requested to apply to become a Master Teacher.

Master Teacher Program. The Tallmadge City Schools Board of Education and the Tallmadge Teachers Association shall form a Master Teacher Committee (“Committee”), which shall be responsible for overseeing and verifying candidate eligibility and using state designated forms to properly process candidates. The Committee will approve only those who meet the eligibility standards set forth by the Ohio Department of Education. Teachers who are Nationally Board Certified following the completion of the required section of the application, shall be designated as Master Teachers. Ohio Teachers of the Year and Presidential Award in Excellence in Math and Science Teaching recipients (within the last five (5) years) shall be designated as Master Teachers. These teachers qualify for the one-time stipend. The Committee shall consist of two (2) administrators and three (3) teachers. The administrators shall be appointed by the Superintendent and the teachers by the Association President. All members of the Committee shall serve three (3) year terms. The Committee Chairperson, who shall not be an administrator, will be responsible for attending and facilitating Committee meetings, maintaining and storing required records (including meeting notes), receiving candidate applications, preparing candidate applications for blind readings, notifying applicants of Committee decisions, and submitting required information to the EMIS Coordinator. The Committee shall be trained during work time. The Committee shall be given release time to complete its work. Two (2) teacher members of the Committee will be responsible for scoring each application. If the two (2) assigned Committee member teachers disagree regarding the recommendation of an applicant, then a third teacher on the Committee will read and score the application. A majority vote of the assigned teacher members will determine the applicant’s eligibility. The Committee will inform each applicant of its decision in writing, including his/her final score. If the applicant disagrees with the Committee’s determination, s/he may appeal the decision. The appeal must be submitted within thirty (30) calendar days of the Committee’s notification. Upon receipt of an appeal, the Committee will assemble a panel consisting of one (1) licensed educator selected by the Committee; one (1) licensed educator selected by the educator seeking resolution; and one (1) licensed educator selected by mutual agreement of the Superintendent and the Association President. Master Teacher Program. Any teacher who meets the following qualifications shall qualify as a Master Teacher. A. Any teacher who has been employed by the Onsted Community Schools for at least fifteen (15) years or is on the final step of the salary schedule may elect to participate in the Master Teacher program during the teacher‟s final two (2) years of employment. B. An eligible teacher may elect to participate in the Master Teacher program by notifying the Superintendent in writing not later than May 1st of the year proceeding the desired participation year. A plan will be developed by the teacher and building administrator. A copy of the plan will be submitted annually, to the building administrator and Superintendent for approval by May 15th of the same year. C. Each Master Teacher and the District shall execute a Master Teacher contract, which shall describe the additional duties and responsibilities to be performed by the teacher. Paid Schedule B duties and assignments shall not qualify as additional duties for Master Teacher purposes. The Master Teacher duties may include the following or similar duties:  Resource Consultant  Curriculum Review and/or Development  Mentor  School Improvement or NCA Responsibilities  Staff Development  Exploration and Implementation of Technologies  Student Testing duties and responsibilities  Student Assemblies  Special projects with students  Extra Teaching duties (perhaps teaching or supervising during planning period for a portion of the year)  Additional duties or responsibilities as mutually determined D. The Board will pay to the teacher the stipend specified in Schedule B for Master Teacher. E. A Master Teacher who does not retire or otherwise leave the employ of the District at the end of the program is removed from the Master Teacher program for failing to perform the additional duties required by the teacher‟s Master Teacher contract (or who leaves the program before the end of the program period) and shall reimburse the District for all Master Teacher stipends received plus retirement contributions and FICA taxes paid by the District on such stipends. Reimbursement may be a lump sum payment or a reduction in the teacher‟s salary over a period not to exceed one (1) year. F. Master Teacher compensation shall only be paid for duties actually performed. Master Teacher Program. To encourage the professional growth of teacher and to comply with the requirements of Ohio Revised Code. 1. The District’s LPDC Committee shall continue to oversee the District’s Master Teacher program. Committee members shall be paid $20.00 per hour for work associated with the Master Teacher Program. 2. Any bargaining unit member who is successful in achieving “master teacher” designation shall receive eighteen (18) C.E.U.’s.

Master Teacher Program. 23.1 A. To encourage the professional growth of teachers and to comply with the requirements of House Bill 1, passed by the Legislature in 2009, the Association and the Board agree that: 1. A Master Teach Committee shall be created in the 2010-2011 school year for the purpose of establishing procedures whereby Board employees may become and/or maintain the designation of “master teacher” according to standards set forth by the State of Ohio. 2. The committee shall be clothes with all authority afforded it under Ohio law and under the Ohio Educator Standards Board in order to carry out its mission and to make decisions as to how it shall function. 3. Important functions of the committee shall include, but not be limited to constructing district timelines to oversee and verify candidate eligibility, using state designated forms to properly process candidates, providing “master teacher” program information to employees, communicating the compilation of candidates’ scores to appropriate individuals, maintaining required records, and submitting required information to the EMIS Coordinator. 4. The committee shall consist of a total of seven (7) Board employees as follows: two (2) elementary teachers, two (2) middle school teachers, two (2) high school teachers and one (1) administrator. Said committee teachers shall be chosen by the current Association President with approval by its Executive Committee. The committee administrator shall be chosen by the Superintendent. 5. Not withstanding paragraph four in this subsection, the Association President shall invite any National Board Certified bargaining unit member to serve on the committee, though such members shall not be required to serve on the committee. Furthermore, for the 2010-11 school year only, the Committee members shall be appointed to staggered terms of one (1) year, two (2) years, and three (3) years to the appointed teacher members of the committee so that an equal number (two) of them shall fill said terms. Upon the expiration of these staggered terms, teacher members of the committee shall thereafter be appointed for a term of three (3) years. The term for the administrator serving on the committee shall be determined by the Superintendent, but in no case shall exceed three (3) years. Master Teacher Program. For at least the first three (3) years of his/her or her employment in classroom teaching, a teacher will be assigned a master teacher(s) who will serve as mentor(s) to the new teacher. During the first three (3) year period professional development training will be based on the professional plan and will include not less than fifteen (15) days of professional development. The mentor teacher shall be assigned in accordance with the following: 1. The mentor teacher shall be an appropriate individual as determined under MCL 380 Section 1526. 2. Participation as a mentor teacher shall be voluntary. 3. The District shall promptly notify the Association when a mentor teacher is matched with his/her mentee. 4. Reasonable effort will be made to match mentors and mentees who work in the same building and have the same area of certification. Neither the mentor nor the mentee shall be permitted to participate in any matter related to the evaluation of the other.
