Canine Assignment. The appointing authority may assign an employee to a canine assignment. The duties of an employee assigned to such assignment shall include training, exercise, procuring food and supplies, veterinarian visits, feeding and grooming and other authorized activities. Employees assigned to canine assignments shall be allowed seven (7) hours per standard work period for the activities cited in the preceding paragraph with their assigned dog(s). Such time will be scheduled within each standard work period as determined by the Probation Officer. Canine care activities time shall be paid at the employee’s current wage rate including applicable premiums and bonuses and is inclusive of any additional or extraordinary time spent on such canine care activities.

Canine Assignment. Officers assigned to the canine unit and who care and maintain the dog at their homes will be required to spend 1 ½ hours per week for such home care duties, based approximately on 10 minutes per work day and 20 minutes per off day. The home care work will be paid at the regular police officer rate at time and one-half even though it is recognized that dog care is not law enforcement work.
Canine Assignment. A canine officer shall be compensated for eight (8) hours per pay period for at-home care, grooming, feeding and other activities related to the care and maintenance of an assigned canine. Such compensation shall be at the rate of one and one-half (1-1/2%) times the officer’s premium rate of pay. Canine officers are not eligible for ADP compensation.

Canine Assignment. The Hocking County Sheriff’s Office Canine(s) shall be the property of the Employer and will be licensed in accordance with all state and local laws. Should this meeting fail to resolve the problem, the Employee may use the grievance process. The Canine Officer will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the assigned canine. The canine will live with the officer inside his/her residence and may be kenneled while on the Employee’s property. The Employer will be responsible for the cost of kenneling the canine if the Canine Officer is away from home for an extended period, i.e. a period of time in excess of eight (8) hours. The Canine Officer will be assigned a regular eight (8) hour shift unless an assignment requires the Canine Officer to work overtime. Certain days per month shall be designated as training day(s) during which the Canine Officer and the dog will train with their training group. The Canine Officer will be paid for the training day in the same manner as a regular workday. The Canine Officer will accumulate compensatory time or overtime pay shall be 1/2 an hour per day that will be used for the care and maintenance of the canine including, but not limited to the cleaning, feeding and caring for the canine during the officer’s off duty time. Time to and from the Canine Officer’s normal assignment does not constitute any part of his/her shift. Any work performed on a normal day off other than the care and maintenance of the canine shall be paid at the applicable overtime rate. No compensation will be given until his/her services are requested and the Canine Officer has actually left his/her residence to respond to a “call-out”. Canine Assignment. A. Canine Handlers that provide for the care and maintenance of the canine will be paid for no more than 31 hours per month, $310.00 per month, effective July 2009, This pay shall be the exclusive compensation for the off duty care and maintenance of the canine. No further hours for the care and maintenance of the canine will be worked by the canine handler without prior approval by the Sheriff. Such pay shall continue for the duration of the assignment. The Sheriff shall have full discretion to make the assignment or remove someone from such assignment.
Canine Assignment. The City shall pay Canine Officers an additional 11.31% of base salary for the on-duty responsibility of being a canine officer. The parties agree, to the extent permitted by law, this compensation is special compensation and shall be reported as such pursuant to Title 2 CCR, Section 571(a)(2) Canine Officer Premium. The Canine Officers shall also receive pay at the rate of $15.00 per hour paid at time and one half (1.5) for seven hours per pay period for all off duty hours spent caring, grooming, feeding and otherwise maintaining their canine. The City and officers understand and agree that this additional compensation is intended to compensate canine officers for all off duty hours spent caring, grooming, feeding and otherwise maintaining their canine, in compliance with the FLSA and interpretive cases and rulings. The parties acknowledge that the FLSA, which governs the entitlement to compensation for canine duties, entitles the parties to agree to a reasonable number of hours per month for the performance of off duty canine duties. The hours derived at in this agreement were determined after an actual inquiry of the officers assigned in the canine special assignment as addressed by Xxxxxx v. City of Xxxxxx City, 360 F.3d 1014 (9th Cir. 2004). It is the intent of the parties through the provisions of this section to fully comply with the requirements of the FLSA. In addition, both parties believe that this section of the MOU does comply with the requirements of the FLSA.

Canine Assignment. The Chief of Police may assign officers to canine duty. Officers so assigned shall not obtain any tenure or other property interest in the assignment. Once so assigned the City shall pay a five percent (5%) pay differential above the Officer’s top salary step inclusive of P.O.S.T. incentives as compensation for the time spent outside of regular shift hours spent caring for the assigned animal. This pay differential shall be paid each pay period for the time the Officer is assigned to canine duty. When the Officer is reassigned, upon request or by management from canine duty, the five percent (5%) pay differential shall cease. The assignment to canine duty shall generally conform to the provisions of the agreement of June 18, 1984, which is referenced here for informational purposes only and is not made a part of this agreement. The City retains the sole right to administer the canine program, which may include its termination. The City may also renegotiate the terms of this section upon notification to the Association.
Canine Assignment. Designated Canine Handlers shall receive one ten hour shift off every two weeks for care and maintenance of the Police canine.
