1. When, in the judgment of a teacher, a student is by his/her behavior seriously disrupting a school activity or instructional program to the detriment of other students, the teacher may temporarily, with notification to the principal, exclude the student from the activity and/or program and refer him/her to the principal or other school-level disciplinary program(s) designed to assist such student(s).
2. Except when necessary to fulfill other normal student responsibilities, the student shall not return to the classroom activity, program, or area where such disruption had taken place until the teacher is satisfied that proper remedial action has been taken or until the teacher has had a formal conference with and a written reply from the principal or assistant principal.
3. The “Student Code of Conduct” shall be followed by the school administrator in reviewing individual student disciplinary actions. The final school building level authority for student disciplinary action is the school principal.
B. Physical or Verbal Abuse
1. Any teacher threatened with physical abuse or who is physically abused in connection with his/her employment shall immediately report the incident in writing to his/her immediate supervisor.
2. Incidents involving verbal abuse shall be reported in a similar manner.
3. The teacher may request a conference with the Superintendent or his/her representative to discuss such an incident or the corrective action taken.
C. All schools shall have a two-way communications system in which a teacher can initiate calls to the school office. Schools presently without such systems shall have them included in their renovation plans.
CLASSROOM CONTROL. 1. The SPS shall support and uphold employees in their efforts to maintain a sound learning environment. Using professional judgment the employee shall request assistance if a student substantially disrupts the classroom environment and shall provide written information/requests for assistance as required. It shall be the responsibility of the appropriate administrator to provide assistance in an immediate or timely fashion consistent with the circumstances.
2. Consistent with SPS discipline procedures, the principal and certificated employees of each building shall confer at least annually for the purpose of developing, or reviewing, or both, building discipline standards and the uniform enforcement of those standards. (WAC 180-40- 225(1b)
3. Employees are required by law to maintain a suitable environment for learning, and administrators have the responsibility for maintaining and facilitating the educational program. A student who by his/her behavior is substantially disrupting the classroom environment may be removed from a class pending action by the SPS, subject to the provisions of SPS regulations and procedures in accordance with State law and Chapter 180-40 WAC. Students shall be removed from the classroom only for the violation of established rules as set forth in the SPS Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, the laws of the State of Washington, Washington Administrative Code Chapter 180-40, or the rules and regulations of the SPS and the Federal Government.
4. A student may be removed immediately from a class, subject or activity by a certificated teacher and sent to the building principal/program manager or other designated school authority provided the teacher has good and sufficient reason to believe the student's presence poses an immediate and continuing danger to the student, other students, or school personnel or is an immediate and continuing threat of substantial disruption of the class, subject, activity or educational process of the student's school, according to Chapter 180-40 WAC as now or hereafter amended.
5. The student shall remain out of the class, subject or activity only until the danger or threat ceases or until the building principal/program manager or other designated school authority acts to impose discipline or short-term suspension, initiates a long-term suspension or expulsion, or imposes an emergency expulsion.

CLASSROOM CONTROL. 9.01 Efforts to deal with student behavior in schools are directed to a higher goal than control of conduct in classroom halls and grounds. That goal is the learning of adequate student self-direction and control within the framework of what society has defined as acceptable behavior. Effective classroom teaching is dependent upon teacher control of the classroom.
9.02 Each Building Principal shall publish and distribute at the beginning of each school year to all students and teachers, written behavioral rules and regulations along with projected disciplinary measures in accordance with state law and/or Board policy.
9.03 The Board and Administration shall support and assist employees with respect to maintenance of classroom control and discipline according to school policies, rules, and regulations. This paragraph also applies to alternative educational programs that take place outside the normal school day (e.g., Clearview Academy”).
9.04 In case of verbal or physical threat or assault, the procedures to be followed shall include, but are not limited to the following:
A. A bargaining unit member who has been verbally or physically threatened or assaulted may make an oral report to the Building Principal or his/her designee. The employee shall make a written report to the Building Principal before leaving school that day or as soon as possible. The report shall contain relevant fact(s) and include names of employees, students, and/or other persons who witnessed the threat or assault.
B. When there is probable cause for believing that threatened actions could become a reality, the Building Principal, if he/she deems necessary, shall notify the police. In any case, the employee, acting in a personal capacity may notify the police if he/she judges such notification to be necessary. If it is determined that charges should be filed against the student, the employee will file a complaint with the Juvenile Court or the City Solicitor, as appropriate, and provide such reports as may be required for the processing of the case.
C. At the discretion of the bargaining unit member in charge of the classroom, the accused student or students may be immediately removed from class. The Building Principal will investigate the allegations and decide whether disciplinary action is appropriate. Charges may be filed against the student as indicated in the previous paragraph. CLASSROOM CONTROL. The authority and effectiveness in the classroom shall be primarily the teacher's responsibility. The Board and Administration will give reasonable support and assistance to teachers with respect to the maintenance of control and discipline in the classroom. Whenever it appears that a particular pupil requires the attention of special counselors, social workers, alternative education placement, or law enforcement personnel, the teacher shall advise the principal in writing. Having been advised the principal will schedule a building team (teacher, social worker, principal, psychologist, etc.)

Using professional judgment, the employee will request assistance if a student substantially disrupts the classroom environment and will provide written information/requests for assistance as required. Substantial disruption means significant interference with instruction, school operations or school activities, violent physical or verbal altercations between students, or a hostile environment that significantly interferes with a student’s education. It will be the responsibility of the appropriate administrator to provide assistance in an immediate or timely fashion consistent with the circumstances.
2. Consistent with SPS discipline procedures, the principal and certificated employees of each building shall confer at least annually for the purpose of developing and reviewing building discipline standards and the enforcement of those standards. (WAC 392-400-110).

CLASSROOM CONTROL. If a teacher has the approval of the principal or his/her designee, he/she may dismiss a student from class when the seriousness of the offense, the persistence of misbehavior, or the disruptive effect of the violation make the continued presence of the student in the classroom detrimental to the remainder of the class. The teacher shall readmit the student upon authorization of the principal or his/her designee.
CLASSROOM CONTROL. It is the responsibility of the Contractor to make sure participates do not unduly disturb other activities in the facility and that no damage is done to the room or equipment. If problems persist, please contact the County to discuss.
