PROBATIONARY PERIOD AND ORIENTATION. 10.01 (a) A new Employee shall serve a probationary period of 697 hours worked. The Employer shall provide an evaluation of each probationary Employee at least once during the Employee’s probationary period and again prior to the completion of her or his probationary period.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD AND ORIENTATION. (a) Each Full-time Employee shall first serve a single probationary period of three (3) months' full time employment or five hundred and six (506) hours worked, whichever occurs first.
(b) In the case of part-time or temporary Employees who upon completion of six (6) calendar months of employment and who have not completed five hundred and six (506) hours, their probationary period has been completed.
(c) Casual Employees shall serve a single probationary period of five hundred and six (506) hours worked.
(d) If a new Employee is unsatisfactory in the opinion of the Employer, such Employee may be dismissed or their employment terminated, in writing, at any time during the probationary period without cause, and such dismissal or termination of employment shall be subject to appeal through the grievance procedure but shall not be subject to arbitration.
8.02 By mutual agreement in writing between the Union and the Employer, the probationary period may be extended up to a maximum of one hundred and sixty nine (169) hours worked. During the extended period, and if in the opinion of the Employer, the Employee is found to be unsatisfactory, such Employee may be dismissed or their employment terminated, in writing at any time during the extended period without cause. Such dismissal or termination of employment shall not be subject to the arbitration procedure.
8.03 The Employer shall provide a performance appraisal of each probationary Employee at least once during their probationary period. On or before the completion of the Employee's probationary period, the Employer will notify the Employee in writing confirming that:
(a) the Employee has passed their probation and maintains their current casual position or maintains their current position as a regular full time or regular part time Employee as per their current FTE; or
(b) their employment will be terminated.
8.04 The Employer shall provide a paid orientation for all Employees, including:
(a) orientation for each shift pattern (days, and/ or evenings, and/ or nights) that the Employer assigns the Employee to work; and
(b) an orientation to the site and/or Employer organization;
(c) an Employee's request for up to three (3) paid orientation shifts under guidance or supervision in resident care, or when requested in writing up to five (5) paid orientation shifts, shall not be unreasonably denied. The orientation period may be extended at the Employer's discretion;
(d) No Employee shall be expected to work with...

11.01 (a) A new Employee shall serve a probationary period of 503.75 hours worked. The Employer shall provide an evaluation of each probationary Employee at least once during the Employee’s probationary period and again prior to the completion of the probationary period.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD AND ORIENTATION. Section 1. Newly employed nurses shall be considered to be on probation for a period of four (4) calendar months, which period may be extended at the discretion of the Center, however, the extension shall not exceed sixty (60) days. The Center will notify the ONA staff representative if a probationary period is to be extended. During or at the time of the probationary period, or any extension thereof, the Center may terminate the nurse at will and such termination shall not be subject to the grievance procedure in this Agreement.
Section 2. During the probationary period, or any extension thereof, a nurse shall have no seniority rights, but at the end of the period, if retained in the Center's employ, his/her seniority shall be computed from the date of last hire.
Section 3. Each new nurse shall receive at least a six (6) week orientation program covering the standard operating procedure, Center policy, benefits review (including the importance and essential nature of long term disability insurance, especially as it relates to the nursing profession), a Center tour, introduction to ONA (including the fair share provisions) and the definition of the interrelationships of the Xxxxxxxx Blood Center. This program will include at least six (6) weeks of formal training and related clinical experience. For Clinical Services Nurses who provide Therapeutic Apheresis procedures, an orientation period will be provided for each procedure that will consist of formal training and related clinical experience. Any nurse transferred permanently to a new unit shall have an appropriate orientation on the unit. Nurses assuming shift leadership shall have an appropriate shift leadership orientation. Orientation requirements may be modified by Center management depending upon the education, experience and demonstrated clinical competence of an individual nurse. During the probationary period, the RN shall receive a monthly performance reviews. Failure to complete all periodic reviews will not impinge on management's right to fail a nurse on probation or give rise to the right to file a grievance in the case of failure of probation.
Section 4. Subsequent to the orientation, the probationary nurse will normally be assigned to full participation. PROBATIONARY PERIOD AND ORIENTATION.
29.01 A newly hired full time Employee must successfully complete a probationary period of three (3) months. A newly hired part time Employee must successfully complete a probationary period of four hundred and eighty-seven and one-half (487.5) hours worked. A newly hired full-time and part-time Employee (Licensed Practical Nurse) must successfully complete a probationary period of five hundred and three point seven five (503.75) hours worked. On or before the expiry date of the initial probationary period, the Employer will confirm to the Employee the decision to:
(a) confirm the Employee’s appointment as having completed probation; or
(b) extend the probationary status in consultation with the Union; or
(c) terminate the Employee. Provided, however, that each full day of absence from scheduled work for any reason will extend the probation period by one full day. If a probationary Employee is transferred to another classification, the Employee may be required to complete a new probationary period, commencing on the date of transfer and the Union will be advised. In no event will the regular full-time and part-time Employee’s total probationary period exceed nine hundred and seventy (975) hours worked and one thousand and seven point five (1007.5) in the case of regular Licensed Practical Nurse. Employees will be kept advised of their progress during the probationary period.
29.02 The Employer will provide a reason for the termination to the Employee, and the Employee will not have recourse to the grievance procedure set out in this Collective Agreement or the Code, with respect to such termination.
29.03 The Employer will provide a paid orientation for all new Employees (regular and casual), and when an Employee changes areas within a department or changes departments.
29.04 Subject to Article 31, the Employer will provide a performance appraisal of each probationary Employee at least once during the Employee’s probationary period.

The Employer shall provide an evaluation of each probationary Employee at least once during the Employee’s probationary period and again prior to the completion of their probationary period.
(b) During these evaluations the Employer shall notify the Employee, in writing, of any deficiencies, and where possible, provide the Employee an opportunity to correct them.
9.02 Subject to Article 9.01, if a new Employee is unsuitable in the opinion of the Employer, such Employee may be terminated at any time during the probationary period without recourse to the grievance procedure.
9.03 The Employer shall provide a paid orientation period for all new Employees. The Employee’s first seven (7) Shifts of resident care shall be under guidance or supervision. Orientation to the site shall be provided prior to the conclusion of the aforementioned seven (7) Shifts. Where the Employee will be on rotating Shifts, the first four (4) Shifts shall be day Shifts and the Employee’s first two (2) Shifts on evenings and nights shall be under guidance or supervision. The broader orientation to the organization may be provided beyond the aforementioned seven (7) Shifts as determined by the Employer. A request by an Employee for additional orientation shall not be unreasonably denied.
9.04 An Employee, absent for six (6) months or more, shall be provided with appropriate re-orientation, the form and duration of which shall be determined in consultation between the Employee and the immediate supervisor.

In the case of part-time or temporary Employees, the probationary period shall be four hundred and fifty (450) hours worked. Such dismissal or termination of employment shall not be subject to the arbitration.
8.03 The Employer shall conduct a probationary review of each probationary Employee prior to the end of their probationary period.
8.04 The Employer shall provide a paid orientation for all Employees, including:
(a) orientation for each shift pattern (days, and/or evenings, and/or nights) that the Employer assigns the Employee to work; and
(b) an orientation to the site and/or Employer organization;
(c) an Employee’s request for up to three (3) paid orientation shifts under guidance or supervision shall not be unreasonably denied. The orientation period may be extended to five (5) shifts at the Employer’s discretion.

In addition, the Employee’s first seven (7) shifts of patient/resident/client care shall be under guidance or supervision. Where the Employee will be on rotating shifts or units, the first shift on each shift/unit shall be under guidance or supervision.
