ANNUAL LEAVE (VACATION). Section 1. Accrual--Annual Leave (Vacation) A. Accrual Rates -- full-time permanent twelve-month employees 1. First three years of employment -- 1-1/4 days per month (15 days maximum per fiscal year). 2. Fourth year of employment and thereafter -- 1-2/3 days per month (20 days maximum per fiscal year).

(d) Twelve- (12) month Employees shall accumulate ten (10) days per twelve (12) months. Except in cases of emergency where the Employee may request earned annual leave, and it will not be unreasonably denied, an Employee cannot take earned annual leave during their initial probation with the District. 6-2 After first year of employment as a support staff Employee (beginning second year of employment), vacation time shall be accumulated at the rate of 1.25 days per month: (a) Nine- (9) month Employees shall accumulate 11.25 days per nine (9) months. (b) Ten- (10) month Employees shall accumulate 12.50 days per ten (10) months. (c) Eleven- (11) month Employees shall accumulate 13.75 days per eleven (11) months. (d) Twelve- (12) month Employees shall accumulate 15 days per twelve (12) months. 6-3 After five (5) years of employment as a support staff Employee (beginning of the 6th year), vacation time shall be accumulated at the rate of 1.50 days per month worked: (a) Nine- (9) month Employees shall accumulate 13.5 days per nine (9) months. (b) Ten- (10) month Employees shall accumulate 15 days per ten (10) months. (c) Eleven- (11) month Employees shall accumulate 16.5 days per eleven (11) months. (d) Twelve- (12) month Employees shall accumulate 18 days per twelve (12) months. 6-4 After ten (10) years of employment as a support staff Employee (beginning of the 11th year), vacation time shall be accumulated at the rate of 1.75 days per month worked: (a) Nine- (9) month Employees shall accumulate 15.75 days per nine (9) months. (b) Ten- (10) month Employees shall accumulate 17.50 days per ten (10) months. (c) Eleven- (11) month Employees shall accumulate 19.25 days per eleven (11) months. (d) Twelve- (12) month Employees shall accumulate 21 days per twelve (12) months. 6-5 Annual leave shall be approved by the Appropriate Administrator who is in charge of the department in which the Employee is currently assigned. From one (1) month through ten (10) years of employment at the rate of one and one- quarter (1-1/4) working days for each month of service to a maximum of fifteen (15) working days for each year of service. 2. ANNUAL LEAVE (VACATION). Subsection 1. Annual leave time shall accrue at the rate established by law as follows: A. From one full pay period through ten years of employment at the rate of 15 working days per year. B. After ten years through 15 years of employment at the rate of 18 working days per year. C. After 15 years through 20 years of employment at the rate of 21 working days per year. D. After 20 years of employment at the rate of 24 working days per year. Subsection 2. There shall be no annual leave granted until the employee has worked continuously for a period of six calendar months. Subsection 3. Part-time employees who work at least 20 hours per week normally shall accrue annual leave credits on a pro-rata basis. Subsection 4. The amount of annual leave permitted to accrue past the beginning of a new calendar year shall be two times the number of days earned annually. Subsection 5. Annual leave time earned but not used at the time of termination shall be paid the employee at his/her regular permanent classification and salary grade rate. Subsection 6. Annual leave time shall be granted at the time requested, insofar as possible, subject to the requirements of maintaining Department of Transportation operations. All leave time requires advance approval of the Maintenance Chief or designee to approve such leave. Requests for leave in excess of three days at a time shall be made at least ten calendar days in advance and the Maintenance Chief or designee shall respond at least five calendar days prior to the requested time off, except in cases of family death or emergency. Leave requested for three or less may be approved by the Maintenance Chief or designee upon request. Subsection 7. In instances when it is necessary for an employee to make an early request for annual leave, the employer will respond to the leave request at least 30 days prior to the beginning of the requested leave period. In the event of vacation plans that require monetary obligations or unusual advance preparation, the employer will respond within 30 days of the submission of the leave request. Examples include, but are not limited to, vacations incorporating air or boat travel, weddings or family reunions. Reasons for disapproval will be in writing.

E. Employees who are working as regular employees but for a period each week less than the hours of normal employment, shall be entitled to Annual Leave as above on a basis proportionate to the time they have worked. F. County of Macomb Employees who have been in the Armed Services of the United States under military duty from Macomb County, shall upon reinstatement, if within ninety (90) days following separation from military duty, be given a vacation bank at the rate of one day for each month or part thereof spent in the Armed Service. Such leave not to exceed two (2) weeks in any single year or an accumulated total of twenty-four (24) days. G. Vacation schedules for employees of all departments shall be developed by the Sheriff or designee and must have his/her approval. Provided, however, that employees shall be granted vacation preference in order of classification seniority, subject to the following restrictions: 1. Employees receiving at least twenty (20) leave days annually and/or who have in their Annual Leave Bank sufficient time, shall receive two (2) weeks summer annual leave (April/September) and two weeks winter annual leave (October/March). Exceptions to the two (2) week summer, two (2) week winter leave can be made by mutual agreement between the Sheriff and the Union. 2. As of March 1, for summer annual leave, (April/September) and September 1, winter annual leave, (October/March), senior employees shall not be able to remove the names of less senior employees from the vacation schedule, unless there is mutual consent among the affected employees. 3.
