Shared Assignments. 23.1 All teachers may apply for shared assignments by March 1st for the following school year. The needs of the district are of prime consideration in determining shared assignments and such requests shall not be unreasonably denied. 23.2 Teachers employed by the Board may jointly request a specified job-sharing assignment in respect of a single position. Where the request is granted: a. salary shall be pro-rated according to the percentage of time worked by each teacher; b. the Board shall pay the benefit contributions provided in Article B.11 (Benefits) as if both teachers were full-time teachers; c. when one of the teachers agrees to work due to the temporary absence or illness of the other teacher, that teacher shall receive payment at full pro-rata scale placement for all such work upon ratification of this Agreement; and d. each teacher is considered for all other purposes to be on leave of absence with respect to the time not worked. 23.3 All proposed shared assignments will be detailed in writing by the respective teachers. All proposals should provide details on preparation time, supervision, appropriate organization of students, pupil evaluation, and on sharing of statutory holidays and professional development days. 23.4 Teachers shall be informed of the implications of a shared assignment as it affects: tenure, benefits/compensation, seniority/job security, pensions and employee evaluation. 23.5 Upon completion of the shared assignment, the teacher(s) shall be entitled to return to the percentage assignment time held prior to the shared assignment, unless an additional term is negotiated by, and acceptable to, all parties. 23.6 Any additional term shall be negotiated and approved at least two (2) school months before expiration of the current term.

Shared Assignments. 1. With the advance written approval of the Board, two (2) bargaining unit members may at their option agree with the Board to share an assignment/position that otherwise would be performed/occupied by a single bargaining unit member. For the purpose of this paragraph, a shared assignment is either: a. Working one (1) semester during the school year, either first semester or second semester. b. Working each day, but less than a full day. In elementary assignments this would be teaching either morning or afternoon, while in secondary assignments it would mean having less than five (5) assigned instructional hours per day. c. Working less than five (5) days per week. 2. During the period of a shared assignment, bargaining unit members remain subject to and may exercise options under the provisions of Article VIII. However, teachers may not voluntarily leave the shared assignment before the end of the year. 3. Each bargaining unit member participating in a shared assignment shall be granted a full year of seniority for the school year in which a shared assignment is in effect. Salary of bargaining unit members with shared assignments shall be prorated. For example: a. Shared assignment of working one (1) semester = fifty percent (50%) of full salary. b. Shared assignment of working each day, morning or afternoon = fifty percent (50%) of full salary. c. Shared assignment of working three (3) days per week = sixty percent (60%) of full salary. 4. Bargaining unit members working the first semester shall, commencing with the first semester, be paid during the first semester, or may, at his/her option be paid in twenty-one (21) or twenty-six (26) pays in the same manner as other bargaining unit members without shared assignments. Pay for bargaining unit members working the second semester will commence with the second semester and shall be paid during the balance of the school year and through the summer in the same manner as bargaining unit members without shared assignments. Bargaining unit members working a partial day or week shall be paid at the same time and the same manner as bargaining unit members without shared assignments. a. The Board shall provide the full amount of sick days and personal leave days to teachers in a shared time position, prorated for their portion of the day of the year. Shared Assignments. 16.1 A shared assignment shall be defined as the following: 16.1.1 A fifty-fifty (50-50) job share assignment consisting of each unit member concurrently working one-half of the teacher calendar year. 16.1.2 A sixty-forty (60-40) job share assignment consisting of one unit member concurrently working 60 percent of the teacher calendar year and the partner teacher concurrently working 40 percent. 16.1.3 Effective July 1, 2019, unit members who are currently in a shared assignment which does not comply with 16.1.1 or 16.1.2 above shall be permitted to continue in their current assignment until the permanent unit member who initiated the current arrangement returns to his/her full-time assignment or requests a shared assignment per 16.1.1 or 16.1.2 above. 16.2 Participants in shared assignments shall be required to attend District orientation meetings, teach the entire first week of the calendared district school year, attend the last day of school and last pupil free day, and attend Staff Development Days (on off days) if notified by their site administrator in a timely manner (one calendar month ahead). Unit members will receive one (1) compensation day for each Staff Development Day attended. Effective July 1, 2020, unit members shall not carry over more than a maximum of five (5) compensation days for participation in Staff Development Days. 16.3 The District may grant shared assignments to unit members requesting them if it serves the best interests of the educational program. Proposals will be submitted to site administrator before being sent to Superintendent and Board. The number of job shares per grade level per site is limited to one unless pre-existing July 1, 1999. 16.4 Teachers who are participating in a shared assignment shall be paid on a pro-rated basis based on the percentage of their shared assignment. The District shall also provide each participating unit member and his/her eligible dependents pro-rated health and welfare benefits equal to one full-time position on the basis of the percentage of the shared assignment. 16.4.1 Unit members on shared assignments shall receive one year credit for salary schedule step advancement for every two years of service. Shared Assignments a. Employees who are regular employees may volunteer for shared-time assignments by making application to the District Human Resources Department on or before April 1 for the ensuing fiscal year. The employees’ application will indicate which employee’s assignment is proposed to be shared. b. All shared-time assignments shall be for one (1) fiscal year, commencing at the beginning of the fiscal year. All shared-time assignments shall be subject to the discretionary approval of the Superintendent. Once approved by the Superintendent, a shared-time assignment shall not terminate during the school year without the approval of the Superintendent, except in case of resignation or termination or commencement of a leave of absence of one or both of the employees sharing the assignment. In case of such resignation or termination, or leave of absence, the Superintendent shall have the right, in his/her discretion, to continue the shared- time assignment by hiring a replacement or to terminate the shared-time arrangement and require the remaining shared-time partner to return to full-time status. c. A shared-time assignment may be continued for an additional fiscal year with the discretionary approval of the Superintendent. d. No grievance or arbitration shall arise from the Superintendent's granting or not granting or refusing to continue any shared-time assignments, nor from any other aspect of this article, except a matter concerning a direct question of the appropriate pay or benefit to which an employee may be entitled may be grieved and arbitrated by the same procedure set forth in Article 5 of this Agreement. e. The termination of shared-time assignments by the Superintendent shall not be considered an involuntary transfer.
Shared Assignments. 22.1 Permanent unit members who wish to participate in a shared assignment shall submit a written application for a shared assignment on an annual basis. The application shall include a detailed plan for sharing of duties, responsibilities, and health/ welfare benefits. In addition, the application shall contain a detailed calendar for the pertinent school year that specifies the days of service for each participant in the shared assignment. The application and plan shall be submitted to the school principal/supervisor by March 1, of the year proceeding the school year in which the applicants desire to participate in the shared assignment. 22.2 Unit members shall be notified of their shared assignment approval or disapproval by March 15, but the final site/grade level assignment for the team will be determined using the same procedures and timelines utilized for the District’s full- time teachers. If the principal/supervisor does not approve the application or plan, reasons for the disapproval shall be provided to the bargaining unit members in writing within a reasonable time. (Appeal Procedures Article 10.4.4). 22.3 Shared assignment team members shall share the maximum District contribution for health benefits as described in Article 19, section 19. 3.1. of this agreement. Each team member must enroll in the life insurance program. The District contribution will be allocated/shared pursuant to the following options: (a) A team member will receive a share of the District contribution for health benefits based upon the team members full time equivalency (FTE). (b) A team member may opt out of the following, allocating their benefit cap share to their partner: • Medical; or • Dental and Vision; or • Medical, Dental and Vision The health benefit programs from which the team members may select is limited to those programs offered by the District at the time the shared assignment is in effect. If a team member selects health benefit programs that exceed their share of the District contribution, the team member will authorize a payroll deduction for the premium amount that exceeds the District contribution. If a unit member does not choose to participate in the medical coverage offered by the district, he/she must provide proof of alternative minimum essential medical coverage to the district. 22.4 A salary schedule increment shall not be granted to a unit member if they work less than 75% of one full year of service.
