Use of PTO. A nurse will be required to take his or her accrued PTO during the leave, except where required by law.
a. Notwithstanding the foregoing, for absences greater than thirty (30) days, a nurse will be allowed to leave up to eighty (80) accrued hours remaining in his/her PTO bank. Such a nurse shall designate to the Medical Center, prior to the announcement of such absence, the date by which compensation for PTO is to be discontinued.
b. The number of hours of PTO used per week during the leave may not be less than the number of hours that the nurse was regularly scheduled to work.
Use of PTO. Employees are expected to schedule and take a minimum of forty (40) hours of PTO per year. PTO (or extended illness hours) must be used for all time off taken by an employee. An employee, however, may choose to take prescheduled time off without pay in lieu of PTO for personal convenience of four (4) hours or less in one day, not to exceed four (4) times per calendar year.
Use of PTO a. PTO may be used as soon as it is earned. PTO may not be used in advance and may not be used on regularly scheduled days off.
b. PTO, as with all other time off, such as absent time, must, except in unusual circumstances, be requested in writing in advance of the time off desired, and approved in writing by the Supervisor, except for an emergency or illness. Approval will be based upon the Employer’s determination of its staffing needs. When time off is requested without prior approval due to an emergency or illness, a specific reason for the request is to be given and accrued PTO time must be used. A Nurse requiring time off without prior approval must call at least two (2) hours before the start of the assigned shift. If the department is not open before the start of the shift, the employee has sixty (60) minutes after the opening of the office within which to call. If the Nurse does not have approval for each day of absence, it shall be considered an unpaid, unexcused absence. Such absences can become cause for disciplinary action. The Employer may request a doctor’s certificate of illness, to be documented by a treating licensed healthcare provider and/or require the Nurse to be seen by the Employer’s designated Physician or Nurse Practitioner if the amount of time off due to illness is deemed excessive by the Employer.
c. The Employer shall use its best efforts to provide Regular Nurses rotating off the night shift to the day shift with a schedule which allows two (2) consecutive unpaid twenty-four (24) hour periods off between shifts. In the event two (2) consecutive unpaid twenty-four (24) hour periods off are not scheduled, the Regular Nurse may request, at her/his option, either Absent Days or PTO. Such scheduling and such requests shall be given preferential treatment over other PTO requests. Such requests shall not affect the Regular Nurse’s rights to receive premium pay for weekends when appropriate under the terms of this Agreement.
d. PTO or an absent day may be offered to and accepted by a Regular Nurse if such Nurse is extra on her/his respective unit and cannot in the determination of the Employer be utilized elsewhere to meet a staffing need.
e. In units where there is prolonged low census, those Regular Nurses who have depleted their PTO will be eligible, depending on operational needs, for up to two weeks of vacation annually without pay. CRONA and Nursing Administration will mutually agree on the definition of a period of prolonged l...
Use of PTO. Employees are encouraged to use at least forty (40) PTO hours per year for vacation. Employees may access PTO hours to cover low census days. Employees may carry over up to 80 hours of unused PTO hours for use during the next anniversary year. Employees may not utilize any PTO hours that would result in a negative balance. Employees may not access PTO while receiving workers’ compensation time loss payments.
Use of PTO. 1. Accrued PTO may not be used until the nurse has been continuously employed for at least six (6) months, except in the case of a mandatory Low Census (if requested by the nurse).
2. PTO must be used for any absence of a quarter hour or more, except that the nurse may choose to use or not to use PTO for time off (a) in the event of Low Census under Article XVI.G, or (b) for leaves of absence under applicable family and medical leave laws if the nurse’s accrued PTO account is then at 40 hours or less.
3. A nurse who has accrued PTO sufficient to cover all hours which the nurse would otherwise be scheduled to work in a week of seven (7) consecutive days may apply such PTO to cover all regularly scheduled hours during each such week and will not be required to work during such week(s). A nurse may take accrued PTO covering less than one (1) week.
4. PTO may be used in addition to receiving workers’ compensation benefits if EIT is not available, up to a combined total of PTO, EIT (if any) and workers’ compensation benefits that does not exceed two-thirds (2/3) of the nurse’s straight-time pay for the missed hours.
5. PTO may not be used when the nurse is eligible for Medical Center compensation in connection with a family death, jury duty, witness appearance, or EIT.
Use of PTO. A nurse will be required to take his or her accrued PTO during the leave, except that, in the event of a family or medical leave greater than thirty
Use of PTO. Employees may use PTO on and after the 90th day of employment. PTO use for vacation and/or leading up to an unpaid personal leave of absence must be approved by the supervisor. PTO is paid at the employee’s regular base rate of pay at the time PTO is taken. Employees may use PTO for vacation, protected leave associated with the employee’s own health or health of a family member, if they are sick, disabled (including birth and care of a newborn child or placement with the employee of a child for adoption or xxxxxx care), or leading up to an unpaid personal leave of absence. PTO used for sick time will be tracked by the Employer and considered protected up to the amount outlined in the applicable federal, state, and/or local laws, for the location in which the employee works. Use of PTO may allow an employee to exceed their standard weekly hours unless the employee chooses otherwise. In the event the employee does not choose to be paid for more than their standard weekly hours, the employee must submit a written request to their supervisor or designee for the PTO adjustment no later than 10:00 AM on the day in which timesheets are due.
Use of PTO. PTO may be used by the employee for any purpose. Use of PTO must be approved by the employee’s supervisor or their designee in advance of use except in cases of emergency. PTO may be used in 15-minute increments.
Use of PTO. 10.5.1 PTO may be used as soon as it is earned, up to the amount accrued in the pay period immediately preceding the time off, in accordance with the provisions of this Article. PTO may not be used in advance of its accrual, on regularly scheduled days off, or to claim pay for time lost due to tardiness.
10.5.2 Except where otherwise required by law or by a specific provision of this Agreement, PTO must be used for all time off taken by a nurse. If the nurse has no accrued PTO, unpaid time off shall be allowed for illness and emergencies, and may be granted under other extenuating circumstances on a case-by-case basis subject to approval by the nurse’s supervisor. When requests for scheduled time off conflict with staffing requirements, preference will be given to PTO requests over requests for time off without pay.
10.5.3 Absent unusual circumstances, full-time nurses are encouraged to use at least eighty (80) hours of PTO per year (prorated for part-time employees) for rest and relaxation.
10.5.4 In anticipation of prime time periods, as defined in nursing unit guidelines, the Medical Center shall attempt to supply sufficient staff, including temporaries and per diem personnel.
Use of PTO. Employees who are on duty and not needed within the Hospital during a natural disaster/storm will be offered the option to be released by their Senior Manager and may utilize PTO. Employees leaving early of their own initiative prior to being released by their department head are not eligible to utilize PTO for the hours not worked and may be subject to discipline.
