PROMOTIONS AND LAYOFFS. 10:01 In the event a permanent position in the Fire Suppression Division under the jurisdiction of the Association becomes vacant, such position shall be filled by the next senior employee in line for such position within thirty (30) days, provided such employee has the qualifications and ability to perform the job. Where a vacancy occurs in other than the Fire Suppression Division, the job will be posted and preference will be given to the senior applicant with the qualifications and ability to perform the job.

PROMOTIONS AND LAYOFFS. SECTION 1. Promotions and layoffs shall be in accordance with the State Civil Service Act 78. Effective July 10, 2003, promotions to the position of Sergeant and Lieutenant shall be subject to a minimum passing score of 70% on each component of the promotional process (e.g. written examination, oral interview, assessment center).
PROMOTIONS AND LAYOFFS. (a) When an opening occurs in one of the job classifications set forth in this Agreement (or one hereafter added to those set forth), which is to be filled on a permanent basis, employees will be given opportunity for promotion into such an opening on the basis of their seniority and ability. Where two or more applicants have relatively equal ability, seniority shall govern. The Company will properly the successful applicant with the duties of the classification. Whenever there are no qualified applicants for a vacancy, the Company may fill the vacancy by transfer in accordance with this Agreement or by a new hire. If the employee is unable to perform the duties of the classification within a five day period, he will be returned to his former job. Individual jobs in a labour grade will be posted separately with the addition of “‘and other duties as assigned’: The Company shall not consider the experience gained as a result of a temporary vacancy or assignment. Lead Hand positions shall not be subject to the job posting provisions. If a temporary assignment exceeds thirty days the parties agree to discuss whether a temporary job posting should be made. If the parties decide the job should be temporarily posted, the experience gained by the employee temporarily assigned shall not be taken into account in the temporary vacancy selection. The Company may assign an employee to the vacancy, if any, created as a result of the temporary job posting. In layoffs which exceed one working day and recalls after layoff, an employee will exercise his total plant seniority by replacing the junior man in a labour grade, providing he is able to perform the available work. All new jobs and permanent vacancies shall be posted in the plant for three working days. Any employee in the bargaining unit may make application for such job. In the filling of such a new job, the Company shall not be limited to selecting employees who have made application, providing no applicant has the qualifications and seniority as set out in Article In the event that an employee has been selected to fill such a new job, then he shall be precluded from applying for any other new job for a period of six calendar months.

PROMOTIONS AND LAYOFFS. Vacancy A regular vacancy shall be considered to exist whenever the Company determines that employees are regularly required in any of the classifications listed in Appendix A to this Agreement.
PROMOTIONS AND LAYOFFS. SECTION 1. (a) All openings for jobs within the classifications covered by this Agreement shall be posted in all the Districts simultaneously, as soon as reasonably practical, but in any event within fourteen (14) calendar days of such job openings occurring, and shall remain posted for three (3) consecutive work days, with the exception of Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, which shall be excluded in determining the period of posting, but shall not be held to break the continuity thereof. All bids for job openings shall be in writing, and shall be submitted during said three (3) day posting period. Such a bid may be submitted by his Shop Xxxxxxx in behalf of an employee, who is absent because of illness or injury or because he is on vacation, provided that the Shop Xxxxxxx shall have been requested to do so by such employee. No such absent employee shall be eligible for such job opening unless he shall return to work within thirty (30) calendar days after he has been notified that he is the successful bidder, unless the Company and Union shall mutually agree to waive this requirement.
