Sick and Personal Leave. The Assistant Principal shall annually be entitled to twelve (12) days of sick leave and two (2) days of personal leave. Unused personal leave days will accumulate as sick leave days. Earned sick leave may accumulate to a maximum of 340 days. Every sick day that is issued for the current school year and eventually not utilized during that school year will be multiplied by 1.5 at the end of the school year (e.g., 10 unused sick days on June 30, 2022 will be converted in a credit of 15 sick days for the Assistant Principal’s use.) This unused sick day multiplier will not be in effect during the four (4) years prior to retirement.

Sick and Personal Leave. 17.1 Secretaries covered by this Agreement shall accumulate one day of sick leave allowance for each month the employee receives pay in his regular yearly position. Unused sick leave shall accumulate to a maximum of eighty (80) days and be designated as “accumulated sick leave allowance”. Paraprofessionals shall accumulate one hour of sick leave allowance for every twenty (20) hours the employee receives pay to a maximum of 350 hours in his regular yearly position.
17.2 Any employee having exceeded his accumulated sick leave days/hours may request additional days/hours from the Superintendent. Any days/hours awarded through this request will be deducted from the accumulation during the following work year.
17.3 An employee’s absence shall be chargeable to this accumulated sick leave allowance. An employee while on sick leave shall be deemed to be on continuous employment for the purpose of computing all benefits, including seniority, referred to in this Agreement.
17.4 Each employee may take two (2) days with pay not deductible from accumulated sick leave for personal leave. Application for use of a personal leave day must be submitted to the Personnel Office not less than three working days prior to the date requested. This request must receive the approval of the employee’s supervisor and final approval of the Director of Personnel. In cases of emergencies, this notification period may be waived. If only one personal day is used, the remaining day will be put into the sick leave bank at the end of the year.
17.5 Personnel shall be allowed five (5) days of absence and any additional days approved by the Superintendent, without loss of pay in the event of death of a member of the immediate family. Immediate family shall include mother, father, husband, wife, child, stepchild, adopted child, sister, brother, grandparents, grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in-law. This will also include any relative who is a permanent member of the employee’s home. Personnel shall be allowed one (1) day of absence and any additional days approved by the Superintendent without loss of pay to attend the funeral of an aunt, uncle, nephew, niece, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, or the spouse of his child.
17.6 The employer may request an employee to secure a doctor’s clearance upon returning from use of sick leave after three (3) consecutive days of illness when there is reasonable doubt as to the employee’s ability to perform his assigned duties.

Sick and Personal Leave. Payout Eligibility 4-1 At the time of termination, employees who have completed twenty (20) years of qualifying service will be eligible for a Sick and Personal Leave payout. Qualifying service will be measured to the last day of active employment unless the employee has an annual contract that has been fulfilled. In such case the last day of the contract year shall be used to determine service.

In the event of an eligible employee's absence from work because of non-occupational sickness or injury, he/she shall be entitled to leave with pay during each year of continuous and active service as provided below. Such leave with pay may also be used for personal reasons, once the employee has received his/her supervisor’s prior approval.
Section 1. The period during which an employee shall be eligible for such leave shall begin on January 1 of each year and end on December 31 of that year.

Effective January 1, 2022, an employee who has been continuously and actively in the employ of the Company, and was hired between January 1st and June 30th of any year during the term of this Agreement, shall be eligible for a leave with pay of three (3) working days. No employee will be eligible for any leave with pay until the completion of his/her probationary period.
Section 3. Effective January 1, 2022, an employee who in the anniversary year which begins on January 1, has been continuously and actively in the employ of the Company, and completed his/her probationary period prior thereto shall be eligible for five (5) days leave with pay during the anniversary year.
Section 4. Employees recalled from layoff during the first or second quarter of the year shall be treated as though they were continuously and actively in the employ of the Company on January 1 for the purpose of determining Sick and Personal Leave eligibility.
Section 5. Pay for such leave may be taken in full days consisting of eight (8) hours or half-days consisting of four (4) consecutive hours. Employee may take one (1) day in one (1) hour increments, provided they make the request of their Supervisor and such approval is granted. Such leave means pay for one (1), four (4) or eight (8) hours at the employee’s regular base rate of pay plus cost-of-living allowance exclusive of all premiums, bonuses, or overtime payments.
Section 6. Each eligible employee shall be entitled to pay for the balance of the days of sick or personal leave for which he/she was eligible that remain unused at the end of the eligibility year.
