Sick Leave, Entitlement and Amount. A. All staff shall accrue sick time on the basis of one (1) day per month, based on the standardwork day of the position classification [e.g. seven (7), seven and one half (7.5) or eight (8) hours.] Sick pay accruals are cumulative from oneyear to the next. B. Staff with five (5) or more years of service will be eligible for an emergency advance of up to one (1) year’s equivalent of sick leave under the following circumstances: 1. At least twenty (20) days have been or will have been continuously used for the same emergency immediately before any of the advanced days. These days must have been used to cover absences for illness. 2. The staff member has not been the subject of a written warning, suspension or any other discipline for attendance within the previous year. All evaluations over the last two (2) years must have been satisfactory. 3. The application for the advance must be approved by the Department Head and accompanied by documentation of the illness. 4. The application must also be approved by the Chief Human Resource Officer or his/her designee. 5. The approval/disapproval of the application for the emergency advance of sick leave is grievable up to Step II of the Grievance Procedure. The decision of the Step II Hearing Officer is final and not subject to arbitration. 6. Should State regulations pertaining to the issue of sick leave donation become applicable to members of the negotiations unit during the term of the contract, the parties agree to meet and discuss the extension of such a benefit to members of this unit. C. New Jersey Earned Sick Leave 1. Employees accrue one (1) hour New Jersey Earned Sick Leave for every thirty(30) hours worked for a maximum of forty (40) hours in a benefit year, July 1st to June 30th. 2. Employees can only carryover forty (40) hours of New Jersey Earned Sick Leave from one (1) benefit year to the next. 3. Employees may use only forty (40) hours of New Jersey Earned Sick Leave in a benefit year. New Jersey Earned Sick Leave shall run concurrently with FMLA and NJFLA.

Sick Leave, Entitlement and Amount. A. Accrual of Paid Sick Leave 1. Full-time employees shall accrue fifteen (15) days of sick Leave in each fiscal year at the rate of one and one fourth (1-1/4) days per month. During the first year of employment, employees will earn sick leave at the rate of one (1) day per month of service except that employees appointed on July 1 will earn sick leave at the rate of one and one fourth (1-1/4) days per month. 2. Regularly appointed part-time staff employees accrue sick leave on the same basis as full-time employees except that such accrual shall be prorated according to the percentage of time appointed. For example, a 50% time employee earns seven and one-half (7.5) full-time days by the end of the fiscal year (fifteen (15) full-time days at 50% equals seven and one-half (7.5) full-time days). 3. Employees will be paid for sick leave at their regular rate of pay. 4. Unused sick leave is cumulative. B. Use of Sick Leave 1. Sick leave may be used for the employee's own illness, exposure of the employee to contagious disease, and pre-planned medical and dental appointments provided that the employee submits a request as soon as is practical with the expectation that the employee shall provide at least one week's notice if possible. Requests to use paid sick leave shall not be unreasonably denied. All requests shall be consistent with medical confidentiality. Upon request, the employee shall provide verification from the employee's medical or dental provider of the date and time of the appointment. If a request is initially denied and the employee provides verification of the medical necessity of the specific date and time of the appointment, the employee's request to utilize sick time for that date shall not be denied. 2. An employee may use up to 15 paid sick days to care for a seriously ill family member. A request to use additional paid sick leave to care for a seriously ill family member shall not be unreasonably denied. Use of sick leave to care for a seriously ill family member includes, but is not limited to the following: a. Emergency Attendance Employee's emergency attendance on a member of the employee's family (mother, father, spouse, domestic partner, partner in a civil union, step mother, step father, child, step child, xxxx, xxxxxx child, xxxxxx mother, xxxxxx father, sister, brother, grandmother, great grandmother, grandfather, great grandfather, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, any relative of the employee...

Sick Leave, Entitlement and Amount. ‌ Sick leave is defined as a necessary period of absence because of the employee's own illness or for exposure of the employee to contagious disease. Sick time may also be used for pre-planned medical and dental appointments provided that the employee submits a request as soon as is practical with the expectation that the employee shall provide at least one week's notice if possible. Requests shall not be unreasonably denied. All requests shall be consistent with medical confidentiality. Upon request, the employee shall provide verification from the employee's medical or dental provider of the date and time of the appointment. If a request is initially denied and the employee provides verification of the medical necessity of the specific date and time of the appointment, the employee's request to utilize sick time for that date shall not be denied. Sick leave may also be extended to include a charge to the employee's accrued sick leave time to provide medical care to a seriously ill family member as defined in the special circumstances described below. The number of days that the employee may charge to accrued sick leave time for the special circumstances described in sections 1 and 2, below, shall not exceed a total of fifteen (15) days per fiscal year. Sick leave shall also be extended to include the following Special Circumstances:

New employees shall receive one (1) working day for the initial month of employment, if they begin employment on the first through eighth day of the calendar month, and one-half (1/2) working day if they begin employment on the ninth through the twenty-third day of the month. B. After the initial month of employment and up to the end of the first calendar year, employees shall be credited with one (1) working day for each month of service. Thereafter, at the beginning of each calendar year, in anticipation of continued employment, employees shall be credited with fifteen (15) working days. C. Part-time employees shall be entitled to a proportionate amount of paid sick leave based upon the actual hours worked. D. Paid sick days shall not accrue during a leave of absence without pay. E. Unused sick leave shall accumulate from year to year without limit. F. During the term of this agreement, employees shall receive one (1) day off with pay for each 90 day period for perfect attendance such 90 days shall commence after each unscheduled absence or the completion of a qualifying 90 day period with an additional day off if there is perfect attendance in four consecutive 90 day periods. Part-time employees shall receive a prorated attendance bonus based upon the actual hours worked. In the event of lateness due to inclement weather or other circumstances beyond the employee’s control the employee may ask the manager that such lateness not be counted against the employee for the purposes of this provision. Such determination shall not be unreasonably denied. If the employee is fifteen (15) minutes late cumulatively per quarter or neglects to swipe their time card in and/or out four (4) times per quarter they shall not be eligible for the bonus day.

Sick Leave, Entitlement and Amount. All negotiations unit employees shall accrue sick days on the basis of one (1) day per month. Paid and unpaid sick time will be provided to negotiations unit employees according to University policy and in conformance to all applicable laws. For negotiations unit employees taking sick leave for self, the maximum leave allowed will be six (6) months, unless the negotiations unit employee has paid time accruals exceeding six (6) months, then the maximum leave time shall be up to twelve (12) months. Sick pay accruals are cumulative from one (1) year to the next.
