WORK YEAR AND HOURS. A. The teachers’ work day shall be as established by the host school and shall be when pupils are available for instructional purposes except that such hours shall not be more than 6.75 consecutive hours unless with prior administrative approval. (1) Working time shall consist of the following: pupil contact; child study team meetings; district required in-service training programs; staff meetings called by the administration; travel time between assignments; prep time for teachers who are eligible, and parent conferences approved by the 192/193 Administrator or Supervisor in excess of four (4) hours per year to a threshold of ten (10) hours per employee. A teacher will seek prior approval for such conferences when possible. (2) Prep time and progress reporting time for all teachers in accordance with the following schedule: 21-39 1.25 hours 10 hours twice a year 40-64 1.50 hours 15 hours twice a year 65-84 2.25 hours 20 hours twice a year C. The work year for teachers shall commence no earlier than September 1st and end no later than June 30th. D. All staff shall indicate their presence in the buildings by initialing either the school’s roster or an approved alternative when they arrive and depart from the school. E. Teachers shall attend such school functions as orientation programs, in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and other programs as shall be designated by the Superintendent of Schools. Teachers shall be compensated at their hourly rate. If teachers know they cannot attend, they must obtain permission from the Program Administrator. F. Summer work shall be posted and staff shall receive their hourly wage in the summer. If new staff are available, one new person shall be rotated yearly and no staff member shall work more than three (3) consecutive years. G. Each school year, teachers working twenty (20) hours or more per week may elect to attend the NJEA Convention, one (1) day, or an equivalent professional convention (example: Speech Therapist convention), and also one (1) day to pursue professional development opportunities, or teachers working twenty (20) hours or more per week may elect to attend two (2) days of professional development opportunities, and shall receive their rate of pay for that day if it occurs on a normally scheduled work day. WORK YEAR AND HOURS. A. The work year for employees in the bargaining unit shall be the school year (pupil session days and two Professional Development days) plus the day before the opening of schools. 1. Effective with the start of the 1998-99 school year, employees in the bargaining unit will be paid for all regular schools days on which schools are closed for special observances or emergencies, exclusive of holidays and weather-related system cancellations. In the case of weather-related cancellations, the Instructional Assistant will continue to receive their normal bi-weekly pay and will make up the canceled day in accordance with the school calendar. 2. The work day for employees in the bargaining unit shall consist of the pupil session day exclusive of an unpaid lunch period of thirty (30) minutes. Specific hours of work shall be established for each employee by their building principal, not to exceed thirty (30) minutes before the beginning or thirty (30) minutes after the end of the students' school day. Employees will be required to work any additional time that is required to meet time and learning regulations. The Employer retains the right to implement a flexible work day schedule for Instructional Assistants working within the transition program, which schedule shall not increase the length of the regular work day, but which may begin after the start of the pupil session day or end after the end of the pupil session day. 3. If an Instructional Assistant is assigned or selected by the Administration to work outside their regular work year as a paid member of a Curriculum Committee, they shall be paid at their regular hourly rate. 4. Overtime wages (one and one-half times regular hourly rate) shall be paid to employees who work more than forty (40) hours per week. C. Effective with the start of the 2018/2019 school year, Instructional Assistants shall be required to attend a total of six hours of meeting time per school year, which shall include the first faculty meeting in September. The schedule for the remaining meetings following the first faculty meeting in September shall be developed and shared with the Instructional Assistants by September 30th of each school year. The Principal or other Administrator shall have flexibility as to the duration of each meeting up to a maximum of ninety (90) minutes and subject to the aggregate limit of six (6) hours per year. WORK YEAR AND HOURS. A. Teacher Work Year and Hours‌ The teacher work year, including at the District’s preschool(s) shall consist of 180 workdays. 1. The teachers shall participate in all in-service training programs and shall attend a reasonable number of staff meetings which may extend beyond the scheduled day. “Reasonable” as used herein shall mean no more than one (1) per week unless there is an emergency, and the reason is given. If a teacher cannot attend any such session, he/she shall advise and consult with his/her principal who may excuse his/her non-attendance. The teacher’s scheduled work week shall not exceed thirty-five (35) hours including a duty-free lunch period of at least thirty (30) minutes per day. The teacher’s scheduled work week shall be exclusive of his/her extra-curricular responsibilities, staffings, faculty meetings, student, parent or peer conferences, or other necessary activities. This section shall be inoperative in an emergency or if less than a five (5) day work week shall be established.

In the event a teacher is required to forego a preparation period and provide classroom instruction and/or supervision, the teacher will receive additional pay at the rate of $28.00 per hour for school year 2002-2003, $29.00 per hour for school year 2003-2004 and $30.00 per hour for school year 2004- 2005. 2. Teachers accepting the assignment of bedside tutoring and teachers employed by the Commission for summer instruction shall be compensated at the same hourly rate as set forth in B(1). 3. Effective July 1, 2002, Therapists and Nurses who accept assignment for summer work shall be compensated at the rate of $45.00 per hour. This rate shall increase by 4.25% in 2003-2004 and 4.25% in 2004-2005. 4. Paraprofessionals who accept a summer work assignment shall be paid at the following per hour rate: July 1, 2002 - $11.00 July 1, 2003 - $12.00 July 1, 2004 - $13.00 C. The nature of BOCES programs may require unit members to work extra time or unusual hours to meet professional obligations. A professional workday shall normally be considered a minimum of seven and one-half (7-1/2) hours work per day, but such hours are flexible with approval of the Division Director. B. The work year for positions covered by this agreement shall be as follows: 1. Twelve (12) month employees - July 1st to June 30th. 2. Eleven (11) month employees - August 1st to June 30th. 3.
