REGULAR WORK YEAR FOR TEACHERS. 1. The annual salary established for teachers covered by this Agreement, shall be payable in respect of the teacher’s regular work year. 2. Pursuant to the Standard School Calendar established by legislation and regulation: a. the regular work year shall be scheduled from and including the first Tuesday after Labour Day to and including the last Friday in June, or if the last Friday in June falls on or before June 25, June 30. b. the first day of Winter Break shall be on the Monday preceding December 26. Schools shall re-open on the Monday following January 1 unless January 1 is a Friday, Saturday or Sunday in which case schools shall re-open on the following Tuesday. c. the first day of Spring Break shall be the third Monday in March. School shall re-open on the fourth Monday of March. If the fourth Monday in March is Easter Monday, schools shall re-open for the Wednesday following the fourth Monday in March. d. the regular work year for teachers shall include: i. no fewer than five (5) non-instructional days pursuant to Article F.21 Professional Development Days. ii. two half days for report card preparation. iii. two half days to allow for assessment/evaluation and/or the designing of educational programs. e. The first day of the work year will be a day for organization. Students shall be in attendance for up to one-half the day. f. The last day shall be an administrative day with no students in attendance. g. The Board shall shorten 4 school days of a school by not more than one hour for the purpose of facilitating parent-teacher interviews related to student progress. 3. Any work performed by teachers covered by this Agreement beyond the teacher’s work year, shall be voluntary. 4. All Board requests for a teacher to work beyond the regular work year will be in writing as far in advance as possible. A teacher who is requested and agrees to work beyond the regular work year shall receive at the teacher’s option: a. payment at the rate of 1/200th of the teacher’s annual salary for each day worked, or b. the equivalent release time during the regular work year. Every reasonable effort shall be made to accommodate the wishes of the teacher with respect to the scheduling of this release time. 5. REGULAR WORK YEAR FOR TEACHERS. 1. The regular work year for Teachers shall include the following working days for Teachers: a. not more than one hundred ninety (190) teaching days, inclusive of the last day of the school year, on which students shall report for only a portion thereof, and b. five (5) non-instructional days as set out in Article F.22, one of which may be utilized for parent-Teacher conferencing.

Counsellors who do so will receive equivalent time off during their regular work year. Alternately, counsellors may elect to be paid 1/200 of their established annual salary for each day of work assigned and performed outside their regular work year. Such election is to be made in writing prior to the work being done. 20.8 In special circumstances initiated and authorized in writing by the Superintendent or an Assistant Superintendent, a teacher may be asked to perform work outside the teacher's regular work year. If the teacher agrees to perform such work, the principal and the teacher will mutually agree on the scheduling of the work. Therefore, the regular work year shall include two (2) early dismissal days in the first reporting period and two (2) early dismissal days in the second reporting period for the purposes of conferencing with parents. Each early dismissal shall be of one (1) hour duration. 22.3. The first day of Christmas break shall be the Monday preceding December 26. School shall reopen on the Monday following January 1 unless January 1 is a Sunday, then school shall reopen Tuesday, January 3. 22.4. The first day of spring break shall be the third Monday in March. School shall reopen the fourth Monday in March. If the fourth Monday in March is Easter Monday, school shall reopen on the Wednesday following the fourth Monday in March. 22.5. All work performed at the Board's request by teachers covered by this Agreement beyond the regular school year shall be voluntary and shall be paid at the rate of 1/200 of their basic annual salary per diem or be granted equivalent time in lieu of such pay during the school year. If either party believes there is a conflict between the School Act and Regulations, and this Article, pursuant to Article A.9, the parties shall meet to negotiate a mutually acceptable alternative that is not in conflict with the School Act and Regulations. 2. The annual salary established for employees covered by this agreement shall be payable in respect of the teacher's regular work year. The regular work year shall include a. no fewer than five (5) days for professional development; b. no fewer than one (1) year end administrative day; c. one (1) full day and two (2) early dismissals after instruction of three hours for student assessment/evaluation and parent/teacher consultation for each formal reporting period. All days in session shall be scheduled between the Tuesday after Labour Day and the last Friday in June of the subsequent year, excluding Saturdays and Sundays, statutory holidays, winter break and spring break. 3. The days in session in the regular school year for the teacher shall include no fewer than five (5) non-instructional days for professional development. Scheduling for those days shall be jointly planned by the Superintendent of Schools and the CTA President. Scheduling is to include coordination of district-wide and school based non-instructional dates and shall be completed for the subsequent year by April 30th. 4. No teacher shall suffer loss of pay in the event of a Board ordered closure of a work site or a Board ordered cancellation of student attendance due to inclement weather or due to Acts of God. It is understood that a teacher so affected may be re-assigned to another work location. 5. The first day of winter break shall be on the Monday preceding December 26. School shall reopen on the Monday following January 1. If January 1 is a Sunday, then school shall reopen Tuesday, January 3. The first day of spring break shall be the third Monday in March. REGULAR WORK YEAR FOR TEACHERS. D.24.1 The annual salary established for employees covered by this agreement in Article B.1 (Salary) shall be payable in respect of the regular teacher’s work year which shall not exceed the number of days prescribed by the School Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c.412 with amendments, Section 78, and School Calendar Regulation, Schedule I, February, 1999. D.24.2 Any work performed by teachers covered by this agreement beyond the regular work year shall be voluntary. D.24.3 The Superintendent may request a teacher to work between the period July 1 and school opening in any year. This work should be of an essential nature. Any teacher agreeing to an assignment of this nature shall be recompensed at a daily rate of 1/195th of their normal salary.

Opening day of school: The Board shall, for the opening day of a school year, shorten that day for some or all students of the school, and may provide for different dismissal times for different students of the school. 3. Winter break and Spring break shall be as provided for in the Standard School Calendar. 4. Days as provided for in Article D.22.2.a shall be days in session when students will be excused from attendance and when teacher activities will include: program development, staff development, school planning, parent–teacher interviews and staff in–service as planned by the school staff and administration and, upon request from the CTA, an annual district–wide professional day. 5.
