WORK DAY, WORK WEEK AND OVERTIME. ‌ A. The regular work week shall consist of five (5) eight hour, or four (4) ten hour (voluntary) consecutive working days on one continuous shift for a total of forty (40) hours in any one work week from Monday through Thursday or Friday, inclusive, followed by two (2) or three (3) consecutive days off. Each scheduled day work shift shall include a non-paid ½ hour work break. The compensable work day begins when the Employee has registered his/her start time on the Employer’s timekeeping system and ends when the Employee registers his/her end time before leaving the workplace. 1. Each employee will be provided a ten (10) minute break in each half of the work shift in keeping with necessary work schedules. WORK DAY, WORK WEEK AND OVERTIME. 10.01 The normal work day for the Patrol Division shall be twelve (12) hours, which shall include, within the twelve (12) hour span, two ten (10) minute breaks and one thirty (30) minute break for mealtime per day. The normal work day for Officers assigned to the Detective Bureau and others working an administrative schedule shall be eight (8) hours which shall include, within the eight (8) hour span, one thirty (30) minute break for mealtime per day. 10.02 The work schedule for the Patrol Division shall be a modified “Xxxxxxx” Schedule. The schedule will consist of two (2) days working, two (2) days off, three (3) days working, two (2) days off, two (2) days working, three (3) days off. The Detective Bureau and others assigned to the Administrative Schedule will work a schedule of five (5) days working, two (2) days off, forty (40) hours per week. 10.03 Officers assigned to the Patrol Division will continue to be scheduled for a total of 1950 hours per year, or approximately 37.5 hours per week. Since the Patrol Division schedule would result in two hundred and forty (240) additional hours of work beyond the total of 1950 hours per year, Officers assigned to the Patrol Division will receive two hundred and forty (240) hours of schedule adjustment time. The schedule adjustment time shall be allocated first to vacation time, such that Officers will continue to have the same number of vacation days under the Patrol Division schedule and the Administrative Schedule. Remaining schedule adjustment time will be converted into Schedule Adjustment Days (SAD) which shall be granted as additional days off administered by the Chief of Police. A chart converting vacation and SAD days is appended to this Agreement in Appendix “D.” The Detective Bureau and others assigned to the Administrative Schedule shall work a forty (40) hour week or 2,080 hours per year and will not be entitled to schedule adjustment time. 10.04 The work schedule in the Patrol Division shall be based upon a two (2) platoon system, each of which shall have two squads: one assigned to 0630 to 1830 hours and the other assigned to 1830 to 0630 hours. An employee who takes a vacation, sick or personal day on Friday, during the Summer Schedule, shall still work from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and will receive up to 2 hours of comp time in lieu of leaving early on Friday. E. Work in excess of a normal day or normal week shall be overtime and shall be paid at the time and one-half rate. F. In lieu of overtime, comp time may be accumulated up to a maximum of fourteen
WORK DAY, WORK WEEK AND OVERTIME. 11.01 The normal workday tour shall be in accordance with the scheduled tours of duty, which shall include thirty (30) minutes of mealtime per day, and in accordance thereto, two (2) rest breaks of fifteen (15) minutes each. The second eight (8) hours shall then be computed at one and one-half (1-1/2) times the regular rate of pay. Finally, the third eight (8) hours worked shall be computed as follows: The first four (4) hours worked shall be paid at one and one-half (1-1/2) times the regular rate of pay. The second four (4) hours worked shall then be paid at two (2) times the regular rate of pay. However, after completion of any twenty-four (24) hour period, all employees will be reverted to their normal straight time pay rates until such time that the employee’s eight (8) hour shift is exceeded. At that time, overtime rates will apply for each hour worked in excess of the employees’ normal scheduled shift. Overtime shall be paid in the first pay period following the earning of the overtime. The overtime list will not be used when overtime results from the need to work beyond the end of the shift in order to complete a project. In such cases, the Employee (s) assigned to the project may be retained on an overtime basis to complete that job. In that event, subsequent opportunities for overtime will be equalized by the xxxxxxx on a semester basis. It is understood that an inadvertent failure to offer overtime shall be remedied by providing the aggrieved employee the next available overtime opportunity. F. When it becomes necessary to schedule weekend, holiday or ongoing daily overtime, volunteers will first be sought in seniority order. Then, overtime will be scheduled by selecting the required number of employees in order of reverse seniority.
