TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. A. Teachers shall be expected to report for duty 15 minutes in advance of the start of school.
B. Hours of instruction in all buildings shall be similar.
C. GHS and GES teachers shall be expected to remain in their building at the end of the instructional day for a minimum of 10 minutes to complete those professional duties which must be undertaken within the classroom and building. GMS teachers shall be expected to remain in their building at the end of the instructional day for a minimum of 7 minutes to complete those professional duties which must be undertaken within the classroom and building. This GMS release time shall be followed as long as the school day consists of 7 class periods, each class period lasting 54 minutes. All teachers may leave their building at the end of the instructional day on Fridays or the last instructional day of the week.
D. The normal daily teaching load in the Middle School will be six teaching sections and one unassigned prep. The normal weekly teaching load in the High School will be four teaching sections and one unassigned prep. Assignment of a supervised study period shall be considered a teaching period for the purpose of interpreting this section.
E. All teachers shall be entitled to a duty-free, uninterrupted lunch period of no less than 25 minutes including passing time.
F. Elementary grades will be provided two fifteen-minute recess periods per day and teachers in elementary grades will work a maximum of two assigned duty periods per week. Grade levels grouped together for recess periods will have teachers from the combined grade levels so grouped to supervise the entire recess period.
G. Teachers of music, art and the laboratory sciences, speech therapists, reading consultants, visiting teachers, librarians without a full-time paraprofessional, physical education and all special education teachers shall be provided with relief and preparation time to the same extent as other teachers at their grade levels.
H. No departure from the provisions of this Article shall be made without the prior consent of the Union, except in case of emergency where such prior consent could not have reasonably been obtained. The duration of such emergency shall be limited to the interval between its arising and an expeditious arranging of a meeting with the Union.

Elementary –Teachers shall be required to report for duty at 7:55 a.m. before the opening of the pupils' regular school day at 8:05 a.m. and shall be permitted to leave at 3:27 p.m. after the close of the pupils' regular school day. Teachers shall remain for a sufficient period after the close of the pupils' school day to attend to those matters which properly require attention at that time, including mutually agreed upon staff meetings and consultations with parents when scheduled directly with the teacher, except that on Fridays or days preceding holidays or vacations, the teachers' day shall end at the close of the pupils' class day.
TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. Teachers on a regular schedule will report for duty in the morning by 7:50 a.m. and shall leave no earlier than 3:14 p.m. These times are based on a calendar of 186 teacher days for the school calendar for the life of the 2021-2024 contract. Zero-hour teachers will report for duty ten (10) minutes before the beginning of the pupils' school day and leave no earlier than five (5) minutes after the close of the Zero-hour pupils' school day. The maximum teacher duty time shall be six (6) hours and fifty-four (54) minutes per day.

B. Starting time and completion time will be established by the Board and administration for each building. Each high school and middle school teacher will be provided one (1) conference period during the student day. The length of such period for the middle school shall be the same as the regular class period. Elementary teachers (grades DK-5) will be provided 225 minutes per week for planning. Each planning session will be no less than 25 minutes in duration during the student day.
C. The instructional time for all positions shall be in compliance with state requirements. The middle school teachers shall be required to teach a maximum of five (5) classes per day and the high school teachers shall be required to teach a maximum of five (5) on a six (6) period student day and six (6) periods per day on a seven (7) period student day. While 4 x 4 block scheduling exists in the high school, teachers shall be required to teach a maximum of three
TEACHING HOURS AND CLASS LOAD. Teachers shall normally work a seven (7) hour and fifteen (15) minute work day. Within the work day all teachers shall be entitled to thirty (30) minutes duty-free lunch period. Teachers may leave the building at lunch to take care of legitimate, personal business. Teachers are required not to return late. Teachers will make arrangements with parents who request to meet outside of the normal work day.

Special interest classes, which meet on regular school hours, no more than once a week, will be exempt from the maximum number of pupil contacts.

3. The academic day at Novi Xxxxxxx shall be 7:30 a.m. – 2:22 p.m., insofar as is reasonably possible, with a forty (40) minute duty-free, uninterrupted lunch period.
4. Start and end times may be changed to add state mandated hours/minutes or to accommodate a change in the transportation schedule, however the teacher work day will remain at seven (7) hours and twelve (12) minutes unless unavoidable when providing optimal supervision for students.
5. Preparation periods shall be used for professional purposes. Assignment to a position involving student supervision shall be considered a teaching period for the purpose of this Article.
6. There shall be no change in the time of the academic day, as set forth above, without prior notification and consultation with the Association and the Teachers affected.
