LEAVE OFABSENCE. 12.1 The Board shall grant a one (1) year Leave of Absence to a permanent contract teacher continuing in the employ of the Board who applies for such leave for the purpose of study, research, travel, service as an official of a teachers’ professional organization, or attendance to personal affairs.
12.2 On completion of a one (1) year Leave of Absence for the purpose of study, research, travel or service as an official of a teachers’ professional organization, the Board shall grant a second such leave upon request. The Board may grant a second such leave for attendance to personal affairs.
12.3 Applications for a Leave of Absence for a full year shall be submitted to the Director of Human Resources on or before March 1st of the school year prior to the one in which leave is desired. The Board shall provide its reply within thirty (30) days of receipt of an application.
12.4 When a Leave of Absence for a full school year is granted to a teacher, the teacher cannot cancel the leave after April 15th of the year in which such application is made without the approval of the Board.
12.5 Applications for a Leave of Absence of less than one (1) year shall be applied as follows:
(a) for a Leave of Absence for five (5) days or less duration shall be applied for in writing to the Director of Human Resources as soon as possible and, except in exceptional circumstances, not less than one (1) week prior to the anticipated date of the commencement of the leave; and
(b) for a Leave of Absence greater than five (5) days and less than one full year shall be applied for not less than thirty (30) days prior to the anticipated date of the commencement of the leave. Permission to take such leave shall not be unreasonably withheld provided the absence will not unduly affect the teaching and learning environment.
12.6 The Union shall be informed of all the names of successful and unsuccessful applicants for leave of absence greater than thirty (30) days.
12.7 All pay and benefits of a teacher shall be suspended while a teacher is on Leave of Absence and shall be reinstated when the teacher returns from the Leave of Absence.
12.8 On completion of Leave of Absence the teacher will be assigned to the position he/she would have held if he/she had not been on Leave of Absence.

LEAVE OFABSENCE. 12.01 The Board shall grant a one (1) year leave of absence without pay to a permanent contract teacher who applies for such leave.
12.02 a. Upon completion of the authorized Leave of Absence pursuant to Article 12.01, a teacher may apply for additional, annual leave(s), to be granted at the sole discretion of the Director of Human Resources, or designate. Notwithstanding 12.07 the Director of Human Resources or designate may include as a condition prior to approving a discretionary leave that the teacher relinquish rights to her/his original position and be treated as surplus upon return.

LEAVE OFABSENCE. (Amendments effective September 1, 2016)
1. Upon recommendation of the immediate supervisor through administrative channels to the Superintendent, and upon prior approval of the Board of Directors, an employee may be granted an extended leave of absence for a period not to exceed one (1) year.
2. Employees who have notified the District that they are returning from a leave of absence by March 1 shall return to their former teaching position or as similar a position as possible. In the event that there is a change in the position, the employee shall be notified as soon as possible.
LEAVE OFABSENCE. (a) All leaves of absence other than caused by sickness or injury, must be applied for on forms provid- ed by the Company for that purpose. Specimen copy of such a form is attached hereto as Schedule Copies of these applications are to be given to the Chairperson of the Shop Committee for purposes of record. Leaves of absence shall not be granted for the purpose of engaging in work outside the elevator service except in cases involving sickness or other exceptional circumstances. Subject to the maintenance of opera- tions and its obligations to other employees. the Company will grant reasonable leaves of absence for a reasonable number of employees for the purpose of attending meet- ings, conventions or study courses associated with Union affairs or this Collective Agreement. An employee elected to a full time official position with the Union shall be granted leave of absence during which his seniority will accumulate. For the pur- pose of this article, “Union” shall mean Unit Lodge OS any superior body of the United Steelworkers of America. Such employee shall have the right to continue with the health, welfare and any other benefit plans that are available to employees covered by this agreement. The cost of such plans for such employee shall be paid by the Union.
(a) In the case of a death in the family of an employee. the Company will grant three days leave of absence, with pay, to the employee on the basis of his regular straight time hourly rate, provided that circum- stances exist pertaining to the death which reasonably necessitates his absence from work. Family shall be deemed to mean, grandparents, son-in-law, law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandchildren or spouses’ grandparents. In the case of a death in the imme- diate family, the Company will grant, as a right, three days of leave of absence, with pay, to the employee on the basis of his regular straight time hourly rate. Immediate family means: spouse, parents, children, xxx- xxxx, brothers, father-in-law, and mother-in-law of the employee, and includes any relative permanently resid- ing in the employee’s household or with whom the employee resides. An employee will be granted up to an addi- tional two days leave of absence with pay, at regular straight time hourly rates, if the employee actually trav- els more than five hundred miles (one way) to attend the funeral of the family member or immediate family member. LEAVE OFABSENCE. 19.01 Written request for a leave of absence without pay will be considered on an individual basis by the Employer. Such requests are to be made to the Executive Director as far in advance as possible.
19.02 Leave of absence for Union business shall be given without pay up to an aggregate maximum for all employees of seventy (70) days during any calendar year, provided adequate notice is given to the Employer. It is agreed that not more than four (4) employees shall be absent on such leave at the same time, and that more than two (2) employees from any one department shall be subject to operational requirements.
19.03 If a full-time employee's absence without pay from the Home exceeds thirty (30) continuous calendar days, she will not accumulate service for purposes of vacation entitlement and sick leave benefits for the period of the absence. In addition, the employee will become responsible for full payment of subsidized employee benefits in which she is participating for the period of the absence in excess of thirty (30) days.
19.04 Where a full-time employee requires time off to write examinations for courses approved by the Employer, such time off shall be without loss of pay, seniority or benefits.
19.05 An employee shall receive the pay and benefits provided for in this Agreement when on approved leave of absence for Union business. The Union shall reimburse the Employer for all pay and benefits during such absence.
LEAVE OFABSENCE. 8.1 Leave of absence, without pay or loss of accrued seniority, for personal reasons, may be granted upon ten (10) working days' notice, written application to be made to the appropriate Manager or his/her designate, and each case to be dealt with on its own merit. Compassionate leave of an emergency nature may be excluded from the ten (10) working days' notice provision. An employee requesting leave of absence and refused, shall be notified in writing as to the reason for the refusal no later than ten (1 0) working days after the request has been submitted.
8.2 (a) Leave of absence without pay or loss of seniority for attendance at Union activities, i.e. any official convention, school or seminar of the Union or affiliated organization, will be granted to not more than five (5) employees with a maximum of three (3) from one (1) department, and not to exceed one (1) from any section thereof for a period not to exceed fifteen ( 1 5) working days accumulative for each employee in any one ( 1) year. The officers of the Local (i.e. President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary and Secretary-Treasurer) may exceed the fifteen (1 5) working days to a maximum of twenty (20) working days provided such leave of absence does not interfere with efficient operations. The maximum time off granted under this Article shall not exceed a total of sixty
LEAVE OFABSENCE. 9.1 The Company agrees that in the event of a bereavement in the immediate family of an employee, meaning wife, husband, son, daughter, father, mother, sister, brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, grandmother, grandfather, grandchildren, step-children, step-mother, and step-father to grant three (3) scheduled working days in succession with pay to attend to funeral and other duties. It is understood that in order to be paid, these days must have otherwise been days on which the employee would have normally worked at his/her regular scheduled hours and regular hourly rate. It is further agreed that an employee be entitled to one (1) day of funeral leave with pay to attend the funeral in the event of bereavement of an aunt, uncle, or spouses grandparents or the employee’s son-in-law and/or daughter-in-law, subject to the same conditions as immediate family. Upon mutual agreement between the Company and employee, additional funeral leave without pay may be granted continuous with the paid funeral leave. In the event of a winter death and spring burial, one of the shifts may be taken at the time of the burial. Should the bereavement occur during an employee's vacation period or plant holiday, the vacation period or Plant Holiday will be extended consecutively by the appropriate number of vacation/holiday days. Employees who are on bereavement leave will not be assigned to any overtime work. If requested by the Company, the employee may be required to provide proof of death.
9.2 Employees shall be granted leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority up to a period of six (6) months (or longer period by mutual agreement) when selected to serve in any capacity of official union business. This shall not exceed more than two employees at any one time. No more than three (3) employees shall be granted leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority to attend labour conventions and conferences. It is understood that no leave of absence, other then leaves of absence for Union business, conventions or conferences, will be granted until all of the employee’s vacation and floater days are used. An employee who wishes a leave of absence for legitimate personal reasons shall make such request in writing to his/her department manager at least seven (7) days (longer if possible) to proposed commencement day of such leave of absence. LEAVE OFABSENCE. All requests for leave of absence shall be submitted in writing to the college administration no later than April 1, prior to the college year for which the leave of absence is requested. A qualified replacement, if necessary, must be secured before a leave ofabsence is granted. To be eligible for a leave ofabsence, the faculty member must have been employed at least five (5) years. The Board shall not provide salary or contribute to the payment of any fringe benefits while the faculty member is on leave from the college. The faculty member shall not be given credit for longevity for pay purposes for the year or years the faculty member is absent from the college for leave ofabsence purposes.
LEAVE OFABSENCE. An eligible Employee shall be entitled to a total of 12 workweeks ofleave during any 12-month period, consistent with federal and state law regarding family medical leave.
