Leaves for Other Purposes a. Jury Duty - The secretary who receives a jury duty interview and appearance notice must notify the Human Resources Office within one (1) school day of such notice. If any secretary is summoned and reports for jury duty, the secretary shall be paid the difference between the amount received as a juror and the normal week's pay, provided the secretary is available for work within the regular work schedule when not occupied for jury duty. It is understood and agreed that a secretary shall be required to report to work on any and all days when not sitting as a juror. To be eligible for jury duty pay differential, the secretary must furnish the employer with a written statement from the appropriate public official listing the amount and the dates the secretary received pay for jury duty. Any secretary found abusing this privilege shall not be entitled to the pay differential and will be subject to disciplinary action. Said disciplinary action is not subject to the Grievance Procedure.

Employees summoned and reporting for jury duty shall be paid the difference between the amount they receive as a juror and their normal week's pay, provided they make themselves available for work within their regular work schedule when not occupied for jury duty. To be eligible for the jury duty pay differential, the employee must furnish the employer with a written statement from the appropriate public official listing the amount and the dates the employee received pay for jury duty. Any employee found abusing this privilege shall not be entitled to the pay differential and will be subject to disciplinary action. 2. Leaves of absence with pay not chargeable against compensable leave shall be granted in connection with an appearance before a court or an administrative agency when subpoenaed as a witness in any case connected with the employee's employment or the school, except that leave with pay shall not be granted in connection with unfair labor practice hearings involving the Board and the LSEA or in cases where the employee is party to a suit against the District. 3. When attending any civic function when so directed by the administration, such leave will be with pay and not charged against the employee's accumulated leave. 4. Release from regular duty with full pay may be granted, upon request, for approved visitations to other schools which need not be in the Lansing School District. 5. Substitutes shall be provided for employees released for the purposes of this section.

Upon the death of any other member of the bargaining unit employee’s immediate family, leave of up to three days shall be granted, or if travel out of state or more than three hundred miles is involved, five days. 2. A bargaining unit employee may utilize available category P-2 personal necessity days to augment this bereavement leave consistent with the requirements in section I.D.1.b.ii above. B. Childcare leave, unpaid 1. Upon request, a bargaining unit employee shall be granted a childcare leave of absence without pay for the remainder of the school year in which the birth of his or her child occurs. In the case of a bargaining unit employee who has been absent on pregnancy disability leave in connection with the birth, for purposes of computing the duration of such leave, the year of birth shall be deemed to be the academic year in which pregnancy disability ends and the bargaining unit employee is fit to return to work. 2. If timely requested, the childcare leave may be extended to encompass the subsequent school year as well, provided that the bargaining unit employee has worked as a bargaining unit employee at least one year (either part- or full-time) since the last time that bargaining unit employee was granted a subsequent year childcare leave. 3. Although childcare leave under this section is an unpaid leave, the bargaining unit employee may simultaneously use any available leave under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) or California Family Rights Act (CFRA) for up to a maximum of 12 weeks, during which time the health benefits provided under this CBA will be continued. Following the exhaustion of the 12 weeks of FMLA/CFRA leave, the bargaining unit employee shall be responsible for paying for his or her health benefits for the rest of the childcare leave. 4. While on childcare leave, a bargaining unit employee shall have the option to remain an active participant in the FEA health plan by paying the amount that would have been contributed by the District on the bargaining unit employee’s behalf during active employment, subject to carrier requirements. 5. Service time may be accrued toward permanent status during the school year in which childcare leave commences, so long as the bargaining unit employee works three-fourths of the teachin...
