Personal Leaves and Absences. Twenty-four (24) hours of personal leave which may be taken in 15-minute increments shall be granted to a teacher each year accumulative to forty-eight (48) hours providing the request for such leave is requested from the superintendent by the building principal and a record of the absence placed in the teacher's file. Any personal leave hours above twenty- four (24) at the end of the year will be credited to each individual’s sick leave. Whenever possible, teachers shall submit requests for personal leave two (2) weeks in advance. In any event, requests for personal leave submitted two (2) working days in advance shall be granted. In emergency circumstances where twenty-four (24) hour notice is not possible, leave shall be granted at the discretion of the superintendent. Teachers who have used their available days of personal leave and who need additional personal leave may appeal to the USD 320 Emergency Leave Review Committee for such leave. Any additional personal leave days that are approved by the committee will be deducted from the requesting individual’s sick leave account. The committee, by a unanimous opinion, shall determine whether the applicant is eligible for such leave and shall make the final decision to grant the request or a portion of said request. This request shall be made in writing at least five days prior to the taking of such leave and shall state the need for personal leave. The superintendent may waive the five days prior notice in the event of an emergency. The decisions regarding the granting of additional personal leave days and the interpretation for these decisions shall not be the basis for any grievance. Personal leave may not be used during times established on the calendar for parent/teacher conferences and professional development days. In the event that an emergency exists for the teacher an appeal for leave may be made to the superintendent. Part-time teachers shall receive the number of personal days and total cumulative days as their assignment is in proportion to that of a full-time teacher. Such days shall be allotted in hours to facilitate record keeping. Personal Leaves and Absences a) Each teacher shall be granted three days of personal leave each year. Two days of personal leave may be carried over allowing the total days to accumulate to five. At the end of each school year the district will buy back up to two personal days at the rate of substitute teacher pay (2016). Staff members will be allowed to use five earned personal days per school year. (2013)
(1) Notice must be given to the administration in writing at least 48 hours prior to the time of leave.
(2) Personal leave cannot be taken after May 15. If an emergency exists, the administration may grant personal leave after May 15.
(3) Leave taken under the provision of this section shall be paid according to the teacher’s regular contracted salary.
(4) Leave will be granted at the discretion of the administration.

Written notification should be given to the building principal on the personal leave notification form at least two (2) calendar days prior to the requested leave day. Leave shall not be taken during scheduled parent teacher conference days and scheduled professional development days. If the sick leave plus unused personal leave accumulation totals more than the maximum accumulation of 90 days sick leave, the unused personal leave will be reimbursed at the substitute rate of pay. This excludes Virtual Certified teachers (9/21/2023). Personal leave does not apply if teachers are required, or allowed, by the superintendent to participate in some professional activity other than teaching which is considered as rendering service to the district students or in other cases that may be specifically approved by the Board of Education. Such cases shall be classified as SCHOOL BUSINESS.

(A) Full-time employees begin the school year with a credit of ten (10) days sick leave, The Board agrees to permit the accumulation of sick leave up to a maximum of one hundred (100) working days, which includes the allowable sick leave for the current year. In the case of a work related injury the board will agree to allow and employee to use a proportion of accumulated sick days to make up the difference between the salary and benefits received under Workers’ Compensation and the employee’s full wage. (B) The Board shall grant, to full time employees, up to three (3) personal leave days in any one year.
(C) In the event of a death of a spouse, common-law spouse, life-partner, or child, an employee shall be granted a leave of absence of five (5) school days. In the event of a death of a father, mother, brother, sister, grandparent, mother- or father-in-law, sister- or brother-in-law, and employee shall be granted a maximum of four (4) school days. In the event of a serious illness of an immediate family member listed above, an employee may be granted a leave of absence to a maximum of four (4) days if, in the opinion of the Supervising Principal, such a relationship exists. The days of absence will be with pay, but not accumulative.
(D) Twelve-month employees shall receive vacation leave on their anniversary date as follows: 1 through 4 years-10 days 5 through 9 years-15 days After 10 years-20 days
(E) Paid Holidays: Full-time employees shall be paid for the following holidays Labor Day Christmas Day Columbus Day New Year’s Day Veterans Day Civil Rights Day Thanksgiving day President’s Day Day after Thanksgiving Memorial Day Twelve-month employees shall also be paid for the Fourth of July.
(F) Child care leave up to one (I) school year shall be granted by the Board if requested by the employee. Such leave may be terminated by the Board prior to its expiration upon written request of the employee, and in the event of maternity, written approval of the physician. At expiration of the leave granted by the Board, the employee must return to duty or lose all right, title ad interest in and to the position. Personal Leaves and Absences. A. Annual Sick Leave Allowance Administrator earns pay in his/her position with a minimum of eleven (11) days. When leave is exhausted, the administrator will not accrue any more days unless working. An administrator's absence shall be chargeable to his/her accumulated sick leave allowance. B. Accumulated Leave Allowance Bonus Payment of sick leave shall be equal to the current daily rate of salary for the administrator. The one-half day of the current day's rate or salary will be paid by June 30 of each year for days accumulated beyond 150 days not used.
