Sick Leave Accrual and Usage. 1. Full-Time Employees
a. Full-time employees shall begin accruing sick leave on the first day of employment. Employees shall accrue a total of one (1) day (8 hours) of sick leave at the end of the first month (30 calendar days) of employment and shall accrue one (1) additional day at the end of each subsequent month (30-calendar day period) worked until January 1. Beginning January 1, employees shall accrue sick leave as provided in Subsection A.1.b. of this Article. Employees may use their accrued sick leave beginning on the 90th day of City employment (90 calendar days from the date of hire).
b. Beginning the January 1 subsequent to the date of their initial City employment, full-time employees shall be provided 96 hours at 100% of full pay and 40 hours at 75% of full pay each calendar year for sick leave, plus the hours of sick leave accrued and accumulated as provided in this Article.
c. Any unused balance of sick leave at 100% of full pay at the end of any calendar year shall be carried over and accumulated from one (1) calendar year to the next up to a maximum of 800 hours. However, any unused sick leave at 100% of full pay remaining at the end of any calendar year, which, if added to an employee’s accumulated sick leave at 100% of full pay, will exceed 800 hours, shall be compensated by a cash payment of 50% of the employee’s salary rate current at the date of payment as soon as practicable after the end of each calendar year. Any unused balance of sick leave at 75% of full pay at the end of any calendar year shall be carried over and accumulated from one (1) calendar year to the next up to a maximum of 800 hours at 75% of full pay. No payment of sick leave accrual in excess of the maximum amount shall occur. Effective January 1, 2024, an Excess Sick Payout Pilot Program (ESPPP) shall be created whereby, at the end of calendar years 2023*, 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027, and 2028, any unused balance of sick leave at 100% of full pay remaining at the end of each of those calendar years, which, if added to an employee’s accumulated sick leave at 100% of full pay, will exceed eight hundred (800) hours, shall as soon as practicable after the end of each of those calendar years, be compensated by a cash payment of 100% of the salary rate current at the end of the pay period containing the date of December 31. *Any employee who was compensated in January 2024 for accumulated sick leave in excess of eight hundred (800) hours, at 50% of full pay, shall be paid an ...
Sick Leave Accrual and Usage.
4.1 Sick leave Sworn Personnel shall be accrued at a rate of 6.66 hours per calendar month for each month that the employee has worked regularly scheduled hours. There shall be no maximum accumulation of sick leave. Sick leave for Non-Sworn Personnel shall be accrued at a rate of 8.66 hours per calendar month for each month that the employee has worked regularly scheduled hours.
4.2 Refer to applicable sections of the MOU and the Personnel Rules & Regulations for permissible uses of accrued sick leave.
4.3 Family sick leave may be taken and if taken, shall be charged to sick leave or, with the concurrence of the department head, to vacation, comp time, discretionary leave, reward time, or service recognition leave where the presence of the employee elsewhere is essential because of illness, or disability of immediate members of his/her family. Immediate family means parent, spouse, domestic partner, or dependent child. No more than 72 hours of the employee’s annual accrual may be granted for family sick leave in any one calendar year. Any additional absences due to family illness or for other family members shall be charged to discretionary leave balances (e.g., vacation, compensatory time off, etc.). However, if extenuating circumstances exist, at the discretion of the Department Head and Director of Human Resources, a reasonable extension of the limit may be granted. Any additional leave so granted shall be charged against the employee's accumulated sick leave.
4.4 This provision is to guide employees in monitoring sick leave to recognize when their usage equals or exceeds the standard for the POA. The pattern of use, frequency of occurrence, total hours used, and hours available compared to hours accrued for each employee will be periodically reviewed for consistency with City/District Personnel Rules with due consideration for extenuating circumstances. For purposes of performance evaluations, 60 hours per year will be used as the standard. The 60 hour standard will not include FMLA leave.

a. Half-time employees, as defined by Section 4.110(a) of the LAAC, shall begin accruing prorated sick leave on the first day of employment. Sick leave for a half-time employee shall be prorated on the basis of total number of hours scheduled in relationship to the total number of hours required for full-time employment. Employees may use their accrued sick leave beginning on the 90th day of City employment (90 calendar days from the date of hire).
b. Beginning the January 1 subsequent to the completion of 12 calendar months of employment following their date of hire, half-time employees shall be provided prorated sick leave hours based on the calendar year sick leave allotment for full-time employees of 96 hours at 100% of full pay and 40 hours at 75% of full pay, plus the hours of sick leave accrued and accumulated as provided in this Article. The prorated amount of 100% and 75% sick leave hours for half-time employees will be calculated on the basis of the total number of hours compensated in the previous 12-month calendar period (January 1 through December 31) in relationship to the total number of hours required for full-time employment.
c. Any unused balance of sick leave at 100% of full pay at the end of any calendar year shall be carried over and accumulated from one
Sick Leave Accrual and Usage. Employees of the Authority covered by this Agreement who have at least one year of service shall accrue one day sick leave credit per month worked for a maximum of 12 days per year. Any sick leave earned and unused shall be carried over cumulatively, from year to year, without limitation. If an employee is off the payroll for two or more shifts in any calendar month, that employee shall not receive any sick leave accrual for that month. The first working day of each illness shall be excluded from sick leave usage for employees with less than five years of service with the Authority. Employees with five or more years of service with the Authority may request from the Authority’s Sick Leave Coordinator first day sick pay benefits on two occasions per year. Any employee applying for sick leave benefits shall furnish an attending physician’s certificate on a standard form prescribed by the Authority, such certificate to be supplied on a weekly basis during the period of absence. Employees with at least five years of service and no record of discipline for attendance within the preceding 24 months may use up to 12 days of paid sick leave per calendar year without being subject to discipline provided the following terms and conditions are met:
(a) During a calendar year, the employee shall be required to submit satisfactory medical documentation for sick pay after the sixth day of intermittent single-day absences, consecutive days of a continuous absence, or a combination of both;
(b) When required, satisfactory sick leave documentation from a treating physician containing diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, dates of disability, physician signature, printed name and address shall be submitted to Human Resources;
(c) Required medical documentation shall be submitted within 10 calendar days of the employee’s return to work; If an employee exhibits a pattern of sick leave abuse (e.g., taking sick leave before/after a holiday, engaging in other employment while absent on paid sick leave, etc.), the Authority shall have the right to request medical documentation and may decline to excuse the absence. The employee shall also be subject to discipline to up and including discharge. Sick leave benefits shall be paid to an employee absent due to the excessive use of alcohol or narcotics only if such employee becomes and continues to be an active and cooperative participant in a treatment program that has been approved by the Authority’s Employee Assistance Program.
Sick Leave Accrual and Usage. Sick Leave
A. Time taken off from an employee’s duties for illness constitutes sick leave. Employees shall not lose seniority as a result of being absent due to illness or injury. Sick leave shall not be used for any reason other than sick leave except as provided in the University’s FMLA, available from Human Resources, or as indicated in the next paragraph. The employee may use sick time privileges in the instance of a health condition (even if not covered under FMLA) of a member of the employee’s immediate family (spouse, parent or child) to a maximum of three (3) days per incident. Sick time of up to 24 hours may also be granted for medical-related incidents/appointments (even if not covered by FMLA) for the employee, spouse and children each fiscal year.
B. Sick leave is herein defined as any regularly scheduled working day, or part thereof, lost due to illness, medical examination or treatment, dental examination or treatment, or optical examination or treatment. The University has the right to require substantiation of the reason for this absence in cases of suspected abuse of the sick leave program.
Sick Leave Accrual and Usage. Sick leave shall accrue on a payroll period basis at the rate of six hours per month commencing on the date of hire. After four full years of service, employees shall accrue sick leave on a payroll period basis at the rate of eight hours per month. Xxxx leave may be taken for the officer’s own illness or injury, or for the illness or injury of his or her immediate family members who reside in the employee’s place of residence, absences due to an illness, injury or medical appointment of the employee’s child, spouse, domestic partner, sibling, parent, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandchild, grandparent, or stepparent, or in accordance with PA 99-0841. Each year an officer may take up to 30 hours of sick leave for personal reasons when staffing and other departmental needs permit, in accordance with past practice. Generally sick leave shall be used in full shift increments. However, two hour increments may be used for planned sick or personal leave. Sick leave is subject to accrual to a maximum of 1200 hours. Pursuant to the peace officer’s continuation privilege set forth in the Illinois Insurance Code, any employee retiring during the time of this Agreement who has been employed with the Village of Oswego for at least twenty (20) years (or who retires on a disability pension) will be entitled to continue to participate in the Village’s health insurance plan along with any dependents who were covered by the plan as of the date of the officer’s retirement. The officer and dependents are responsible for paying the premiums due for the continued coverage on a monthly basis on or before the due date set by the Village. Officers shall not receive any cash payment for accrued sick leave at separation from employment. However, officers retiring with at least 20 years of service, or receiving duty disability pension, shall have a credit established for the payment of post-employment health insurance premiums in a sum equal to the value of their accrued sick time up to 1040 hours, and for 25% value for any accrued sick leave time over 1040 hours. For purposes of this Agreement the credit for accrued sick time will be calculated at the officer’s hourly rate at time of separation times the number of accrued sick leave hours. Sick Leave Accrual and Usage. The Assistant Superintendent shall earn and accrue one (1) day of sick leave with pay for each full month of service rendered during the term of this Agreement. The Assistant Superintendent shall not be entitled to use sick leave in advance of accrual or in excess of the number of days actually earned and accrued. The Assistant Superintendent may accumulate unused sick leave without limitation. Unused sick leave may be credited for retirement purposes as authorized by the California State Teachers Retirement System (“CalSTRS”) and applicable law. Time off required by the Assistant Superintendent for illness or injury that is not compensated by sick leave, extended illness leave, or other leave provided by law shall be uncompensated.
Sick Leave Accrual and Usage. The Assistant Superintendent shall earn and accrue one (1.0) day of sick leave with pay for each full month of service rendered during the term of this Agreement for a total of twelve (12) sick leave days per year to the extent permitted by law. The Assistant Superintendent may accumulate unused sick leave without limitation. Unused sick leave may be credited for retirement purposes as authorized by XxxXXXX and applicable law. Time off required by the Assistant Superintendent for illness or injury that is not compensated by sick leave, earned and accrued vacation leave, or industrial injury leave, shall be uncompensated.
Sick Leave Accrual and Usage. Xxxx leave accrued at the 24-hour rate prior to an employee's assignment to a 40-hour workweek should be converted as of the assignment date by dividing the existing accrual by 3.0. Xxxx leave accrual while an employee is assigned to a 40-hour workweek is at the rate of eight hours per month. Employees with 20 or more years’ service shall accrue twelve hours per month. Sick leave usage shall be on an hour-for-hour basis; that is, if the employee is absent for eight hours, then eight hours of sick leave shall be used.
