HOURS AND WORKWEEK. A. The standard workweek for full-time employees, except Public Safety Dispatchers, shall be thirty-five (35) hours scheduled over five consecutive days during a calendar week. The workweek for Public Safety Dispatchers shall be as defined in Appendix J. The workweek for part-time employees shall be as provided in Article 4 (A) (2). Should it be necessary, in the interest of efficient operations and/or to provide alternative office hours to the public, the Town shall provide employees and the Association with reasonable notice of any changes in the workweek or workday. B. The following policy shall be applicable to those instances where due to weather or other emergencies all offices of the Town (except public safety and Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxx) are closed and Town employees are generally directed not to report to work (a “General Shutdown”). This policy shall not be applicable to ordinary weather events such as weather-related school closings or in instances where a municipal facility is closed due to non-weather events such as a power failure. Due to the varied responsibilities of Town agencies and departments certain employees may be required to work as scheduled and others may be required not to report to work during a General Shutdown. There is no expectation that appointing authorities will make uniform decisions as to the status of their agency or department during a General Shutdown. An employee who works during a General Shutdown shall be paid pursuant to the terms of the employee’s collective bargaining agreement. During the week that a General Shutdown occurs employees who work during the General Shutdown shall not be subject to the limitation specified in Article 8(A) exempting an employee from the time and one-half rate of pay for overtime compensation when the employee is absent due to sick leave within forty-eight (48) hours following the day overtime is worked. An employee who is not directed to work by the Town during a General Shutdown shall be compensated as follows: a) Except as otherwise provided in paragraph “b” below, a full-time and a part-time employee shall receive their regular rate of compensation during the General Shutdown. HOURS AND WORKWEEK. Section 1. The normal hours of work for the Police Department employees covered by this Agreement are as follows: A. Officers shall be assigned regular hours on an established shift as prescribed by the Chief so that the highest level of protection to life and property may be maintained. B. The normal workday consists of eight (8) consecutive duty hours including one-half (1/2) hour lunch break, subject to call, and shall be preceded by fifteen (15) minutes of report-in time, for a total of eight and one-quarter (8¼) hours. HOURS AND WORKWEEK. The standard workweek for District employees is 40 hours, consisting of ten (10) consecutive hours per day (exclusive of lunch break) during four (4) consecutive days commencing with the first hour and day of the employee’s regularly assigned workweek and shift. For those employees who are assigned to other than the standard workweek, namely a 5/8 workweek, their regular workweek shall consist of eight (8) consecutive hours per day (exclusive of lunch break) during five (5) consecutive days. The District may adopt a work week that does not have four consecutive work days (a non-standard work week) in Customer Care; however, prior to doing so, the District will provide 30 days’ notice to the Association, during which time the District shall make full disclosure of how employees will be selected, and all other pertinent information and shall, in good faith, discuss any issues raised with respect to that change. If a non-standard work week is considered for other work groups, a pilot schedule will first be implemented. At least 30 days prior to the pilot beginning, the District will meet with the Association and engage in the same discussions as described in the paragraph above. The purpose of the pilot is to determine if the cost savings, efficiency and/or customer service objectives envisioned by the District will be achieved before a permanent schedule is implemented. Except as provided in E(1), the workday, for purposes of the administration of the provisions of this Agreement, shall consist of a period of 24 consecutive hours commencing with the first hour of the first day of the employee's regularly assigned workweek. All references to workday or workweek will be interpreted relative to an employee’s assigned schedule. A non-probationary employee who is scheduled and permitted to report to work during any particular workweek shall be provided with work for the balance of that workweek.
HOURS AND WORKWEEK. Section 1: Work Week The normal hours of work will be eight (8) hours per day, 40 hours per week for yard and radius drivers. The normal hours of work for road drivers will be forty-eight (48) hours per week. The work week will begin at 12:00 a.m. on Sunday and end at midnight the following Saturday. The employer shall make every reasonable effort to assign drivers at least forty (40) hours of work per week. However, in no event shall this be construed as a guarantee of hours per day or week. For New Jersey drivers the work week will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and end at 12:00 midnight the following Thursday. Section 2: Work schedules Before a permanent change of start times for regularly scheduled yard assignments in a particular yard or days off for On Call Road Drivers lasting more than two weeks is made effective, the employer will give the Union and affected employees ten (10) days advance notice and the opportunity to discuss the change. In cases when the Employer receives less than ten (10) days’ notice from its customer, the Employer shall inform affected employees as soon as possible. This shall not apply in the case of emergencies, when employees are called in to cover the shift of another employee due to absences, for shift changes of less than two (2) weeks or shift changes that do not affect all employees. All fulltime road employees shall be scheduled two consecutive days off by seniority. Yard drivers, and radius drivers will be scheduled at least two days off by seniority, but they may not be consecutive. Drivers will not be penalized for failing to answer a call or respond to a call from the Employer on the driver’s day(s) off. Section 3: Available Work Selection Drivers shall be given preference for available work hours based on seniority. A.) Yard drivers shall be allowed to preference additional available scheduled work in the yard they are assigned by seniority. The parties agree that if a yard driver is regularly scheduled less than 5 days in a workweek and available scheduled days open up in the yard in which they work, the driver with seniority in the particular yard shall be awarded that work. B.) Road drivers shall select their assigned days off two (2) times per year by seniority on or about August 31st and March 1st of each year. C.) HOURS AND WORKWEEK. A. Workweek and Workday‌ 1. The normal workweek shall consist of not more than five (5) consecutive days and not more than forty (40) hours per week, Sunday through Saturday. The regular workday shall consist of not more than eight (8) hours per day. Except as may be indicated in B.1. below, nothing in this Article shall be deemed to restrict the extension of the regular workday or workweek on an overtime basis when such is necessary to carry on the business of the District. 2. By the mutual consent of the AFT and the District, a forty (40) hour, four (4) day work week and an eighty (80) hour nine (9) day work week shall be established (see Appendices J and K). 3. Employees' daily hours of work and shifts shall be established at the discretion of the District. An employee's shift may not be changed on a permanent basis without the consent of the employee. If it is necessary to change an employee's hours of work, within a shift, volunteers will be solicited first. If no volunteers are available, then with three (3) weeks prior written notice, an employee’s hours of work within a shift may be permanently changed. Training, as approved under the provisions of Article 17, Professional Growth, or similar training shall not be interrupted by a change of hours within a shift, while such training is in progress. Such change shall only be for a reasonable business necessity of the District. Employees may request flexible or alternative work hours, based on family situation needs and/or catastrophic conditions effecting employees, their work environment and/or community where they live and travel. Every effort shall be made to accommodate the requested changes in working schedule. Denials shall be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the local administrator and the AFT representative to reach an agreed upon accommodation. When the District as a whole, or an individual campus/worksite experiences a shutdown during working hours, employees shall be paid as if they had worked. 4. For the purpose of computing hours worked, time during which an employee is excused from work because of holiday, vacation, paid leaves, paid absences, paid lunch or release time shall be considered as time worked by the employee. 5.
