Emergency Days. Up to two (2) emergency days during a school year for uncontrollable emergency situations, subject to the written approval of the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Emergency Days. A. Secretaries called into work or those who choose to work with authorization from their immediate supervisor on snow/emergency days will be paid their regular hourly wage for the hours they work. Secretaries choosing to work on snow/emergency days must notify their immediate supervisor of their intent to work and get authorization to work from their immediate supervisor. Secretaries may use vacation, personal or comp time on snow/emergency days with authorization from their immediate supervisor.
B. The determination to cancel, delay, and/or reschedule any day of work or partial day shall be the prerogative of the Employer and shall not be grievable by the employee. Such employee will be required to work on any make-up days and will be paid for those days. After an employee reports for work, if the rest of the employee’s scheduled work day is canceled due to inclement weather or other conditions beyond the Employer’s control, the employee (except for those employees required to remain) may leave when released by the building principal. In the event an employee receives unemployment compensation benefits (including underemployment benefits) due to days of work not being held when scheduled which are later made up, the employee's pay will be adjusted by an amount equal to unemployment compensation received. If it is determined that school should be dismissed after an employee’s work day has started, employees covered in this Agreement will be allowed to leave their designated building a maximum of one and one-half (1.5) hour or at the administrator’s discretion, whichever is sooner, after the last bus has left.
C. Should the law be changed to allow for emergency closing days to be counted for State Aid, this part of the contract shall be subject to negotiations.
Emergency Days. When schools are closed for emergencies which are not inclement weather/snow days (e.g., spread of disease/illness, water pipes frozen, no heat, etc.) and are days which will not be made-up in the calendar, staff will not suffer a loss of pay. This pay guarantee shall not apply in any single event beyond an initial five (5) working days period. Personal leave days may be used for emergency days if the employee chooses in the event such days are otherwise not paid.
Emergency Days. During times of emergencies, Volusia County School District employees are expected to maintain public services and to meet new service needs brought about by the emergency conditions. Service demands may go beyond the scope of regularly assigned duties, calling on staff to assume new responsibilities and remain on duty for extended periods of time. The Volusia County School District and the Volusia Educational Support Association, in the interests of maintaining a safe environment for the students during times involving critical incidents such as severe weather, hazardous material spills, fire, or other emergency situations, agree to the following:
1. Should an event such as is stated above occur during the time when the District is responsible for the school children, members of the bargaining unit will cooperate with the administration in taking the steps necessary to reasonably provide for the students’ safety. If such actions require service beyond the regular work day, the administration shall work with bargaining unit personnel to see that while first providing for the security of the students, reasonable requests by personnel to insure the safety of their own families will be accommodated. The District will make reasonable efforts, when possible, to provide time off prior to the onset of a potential disaster for employees designated as essential to secure their homes and see to the safety of their families. Since it may not always be possible, it is imperative that employees have an emergency plan in place to address their family’s safety in their absence. Scheduled or approved leave is subject to cancellation.
2. Any position may be designated by the administration as an Essential Position (EP). Essential Position: EP personnel must be available to report to duty for emergency preparations and may be required to remain on duty throughout an emergency event. Such employees will support the maintenance of critical services and/or recovery efforts. EP personnel are required to advise their supervisor of their location and contact information throughout the emergency. If an employee has unique personal circumstance that would prevent him/her from serving in an emergency, the employee shall discuss these circumstances with the supervisor as soon as possible in order to allow the supervisor to make other arrangements where the circumstances allow. Emergency Days. A. All administrators and supervisors will be entitled to emergency leave per year during the term of this agreement as defined by the following reasons: $ Disaster to administrators/supervisors home or personal property. $ Serious accident or illness to a member of the family as defined in Section 1154(b) of the Public School Code of Pennsylvania, as amended. $ Birth of a son/daughter. $ Funeral of a close friend. $ Appearance as a plaintiff, defendant or witness in a legal case. $ Son or daughter leaving for overseas military service (one day - one additional if point of departure is more than 300 miles from Pottstown). $ Other legitimate requests for Emergency leave of absence may be approved by the Superintendent of Schools.
B. These days will not be deducted from vacation or sick days. There will be no carryover.
C. Eligibility for emergency leave is as follows: Years 1 to 19 - 1 day Years 20+ - 2 days
D. Years are total years of service in the Pottstown School District.
Emergency Days. An “emergency day” is hereby defined as a day of absence which is necessitated by any of the following events which prevents the administrator from reporting to work as scheduled:
(a) Marriage of self or children or of parents, siblings or siblings of spouse where attendance at ceremony requires absence of administrator from school;
(b) Serious illness within the administrator’s immediate family (defined as the administrator’s spouse, parent (including in-laws), child (including in-laws), grandchild, grandparent, sibling (including in-laws), stepchild or xxxxxx child) for whose care the administrator is responsible;
(c) High school or college graduation exercises for graduation of self, spouse, son, daughter, or siblings where attendance at ceremony requires absence of administrator from school;
(d) Birth of child by wife, requiring absence of administrator from school;
(e) Obligatory legal reasons requiring the absence of administrator from school;
(f) Personal matters which are necessary and unavoidable and which cannot be scheduled outside of the school day upon approval of the Superintendent;
(g) Religious observances which require that no work be performed during the hours of the administrator’s work day. No administrator may use more than three (3) emergency days in any employment year. Additional emergency days may be granted in extreme cases subject to approval of the Superintendent. Permission for emergency days must be requested in writing setting forth the reasons therefore, and must be submitted to the Superintendent at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to the requested use. If the emergency is so urgent as to make twenty-four (24) hours notice impossible, the request shall be made orally as soon as practicable either in person or by telephone, to the Superintendent and must later be confirmed in writing. Necessity will be decided by the Superintendent in response to each individual request for permission to use an emergency day or days.
Emergency Days. A teacher is eligible for emergency days at the discretion of the District. Emergency days are reserved for unanticipated, unforeseeable situations that require the teacher's personal attention which cannot be attended to when school is not in session and which are not covered under other short term leave days.
1. Unavoidable court appearances, accidents, catastrophes, and sudden acts of nature, are examples of situations where the District may grant emergency days upon the written approval of the Superintendent.
2. Request for emergency days must be made in writing to the Superintendent or his/her designee. The request shall state the reason for proposed absences. The reason shall remain confidential with District officials. The District reserves the right to refuse to grant emergency days.
3. An emergency leave day shall normally not be granted for the day preceding or the day following holidays or vacations, or the first or last days of the school year.
4. Emergency days used will be deducted from personal days and accumulated leave days.
Emergency Days. 1. In the event that weather conditions or other emergencies result in the Administration canceling school for all students or students in a particular building but office operations are maintained and twelve-month employees are required to work, custodians shall:
a) report to work at regularly scheduled time and work regular shifts.
b) be able to use emergency leave time as necessary to receive full shift pay if the employee was not able to be at work the full shift because of the conditions of the emergency.
c) be able to extend working time with prior approval of the Director of Facilities and Support Services to get in full shift if the employee was unable to report to work at the normal time because of the nature of the emergency.
d) report to the Administration and Services Center if unable to report to regular building.
2. In the event that weather conditions or other emergencies result in the Administration canceling all operations (closing all offices), custodians shall not report and shall be paid for the day(s). Employees who already had reported to work prior to the cancellation shall be allowed to depart as soon as possible and shall be paid for the remainder of their workday. Employees previously approved for a sick day, personal business day, vacation day, or PTO day will be re-credited for such day. Also, for such day, employees working as a substitute in a higher classification shall be paid at the rate of their regular assignment not the rate of the assignment in which they were substituting.
Emergency Days. If a teacher requests a personal or sick leave day on a day which subsequently is declared an emergency day, the teacher who wanted to use sick or personal leave on that day shall suffer no sick or personal leave deduction, loss of pay or benefit.
Emergency Days. In the event of a school emergency day when school is forced to close, twelve month staff will have the option to attend work, take a personal or vacation day, or take an unpaid day if all personal and vacation days have been used. With advance approval from the direct supervisor of the Bargaining Unit Member, a modified starting and ending time may be used for the safety of the Bargaining Unit Member.
