Hours of Work - Work Schedules. (a) The Employer's designate and the employee's representatives at the local level will consult regarding work schedules based upon the shift patterns and hours of work clauses.
(b) If the Employer Wishes to Change an Existing Work Schedule:
(1) The Employer will provide the affected employee(s) and Union with the earliest possible advance notice in writing.
(2) If the change is requested only at one campus, the notice shall be given to the appropriate union xxxxxxx; if a change is requested which involves more than one campus, notice shall be given to the Bargaining Unit Chairperson.
(3) Should the Union object to the proposed change it would have seven calendar days from receipt of letter to inform the Employer in writing of its objection.
(4) The Employer and the Union would have 30 calendar days to attempt to resolve the dispute through the Labour/Management Committee, during which time no change may be implemented. Failing resolution at the Labour/Management Committee within the 30 calendar days, the Employer may implement the new schedule.
(5) Time frames above could be extended by mutual agreement.
(c) If an Employee or the Union Wish to Change an Existing Work Schedule:
(1) The Employee, group of employees or Union shall first approach the Employer with their request in writing.
(2) If the change is requested only at the local level, the request shall be made to the local supervisor. If a change is requested that involves more than one worksite the request shall be made to the designated administrator.
(3) If the request is turned down reasons shall be provided and the employee(s) or Union may refer the matter within 30 days of notice of refusal, to the parties for attempted resolution.
(4) The parties agree that the Labour/Management Committee is the final avenue for appeal of a denied employee/union request.
(5) Time frames above could be extended by mutual agreement.
(d) The decision reached by the parties in (b)(4) and (c)(4) shall be final and binding.
(e) The provisions of Clauses 16.9(b) and (c) shall not apply to temporary changes made to shift starting/finishing times, provided that :
(1) the shift itself is not changed (e.g., from day shift to night shift),
(2) the hours continue to fall within the parameters set out in Clause 17.1, and
(3) the change is for a period of not more than four months in duration. Where possible, the Employer will provide the affected employee(s) with a minimum of 10 days' advance notice in writing of such chan...
Hours of Work - Work Schedules. Except for emergency situations, the following shall be the established work schedules for the members of the Association working the various Sections and Bureaus of the Department of Fire & Rescue Operations. Starting and quitting times of the Line Chiefs shall be 6:30 a.m.; Bureaus and offices shall remain as presently scheduled, unless operational procedures necessitate a change. Fire Fighting Platoons: Effective January 1, 1980, and thereafter, the work week shall continue on the established schedule with the platoons scheduled to work an annual average of forty-eight (48) hours per week. If the total hours of the work week become part of any wage package concession, then the membership of the TFCA agrees to assume a like number of hours for its work week, to gain the same wage package. Training and Other Staff Positions: The work day shall be the employee's regularly scheduled hours of work with a fixed starting and quitting time, and shall consist of consecutive hours, except as broken for break periods and the lunch periods. The work week shall consist of a forty (40) hour work week, as determined by the Chief/ Director of the Department.
Hours of Work - Work Schedules. If the union xxxxxxx or bargaining committee member at the local level wishes to propose a change to the existing work schedules, in a given component or team, the xxxxxxx or bargaining committee member shall provide the Employer with the proposal in writing. Prior to initiating a meeting with the Employer, it is understood that the factors to be addressed in the Union's proposal would include, but not be limited to:
(a) Any newly proposed work schedule shall meet the hours of operation requirements and shall consider unusual or seasonal demands and functionally linked work groups within the organization;
(b) Proposed changes must not result in increased cost to the Employer. The Employer will review any reasonable request, however, the Employer retains the right to deny the proposal based on operational and administrative requirements. The Employer will explain their reasons for such denial in writing. This article is not intended to override or substitute for any other existing section of Article 15 (Hours of Work). OVERTIME
Hours of Work - Work Schedules. Individual work schedules are defined as the number of hours worked per day and the number of days worked in a work cycle. The overall work day shall be defined as a 24 hour period of time from 7:00a.m. to and including 6:59a.m. the following day. Operations permitting, employees will be granted a paid meal period not to exceed thirty (30) minutes within their regularly scheduled shift. In accordance with University policy, the department will attempt to provide a fifteen (15) minute paid rest period during each four hour period of work. Each year, the Chief will present a shift schedule in April. The shift schedule shall remain in effect for the duration of the yearly bid period unless emergency circumstances require changes. Reporting and quitting times for individual employees may be moved either way without affecting the defined workday. If the Employer wishes to modify reporting and quitting times, employees on the applicable shift will be allowed to select, by seniority within the Police Officer classification, from the proposed schedule(s). Each shift shall normally be covered by at least one supervisor, and one or more Police Officers. Employees shall bid annually to a shift based on seniority within the Police Officer classification. All employees covered by this Agreement will only be allowed to bid in May of each calendar year, with the schedule to take effect on the first Monday of July. Yearly bid positions will be defined on the basis of seniority requirements, thereby equally distributing the overall experience level across all shifts. The Employer reserves the right to determine the number of bid positions on each shift. The Employer shall notify the Chapter of all available bid positions. If requested by the Chapter, the Employer agrees to meet and discuss the availability of bid positions. Written bids will be honored if submitted prior to the bid date by providing such to the Operations Commander. The Employer shall bear no contractual obligation upon the failure to receive such written bids. Probationary Officers will be assigned based on the operating needs of the department and are not eligible to participate in the annual shift bid process until after they successfully complete their probationary period.
Hours of Work - Work Schedules. The workweek for all members of the unit shall be 168 regularly recurring hours. For employees working the 5/40 or 4/10 work schedule, it shall begin on Saturday at 12:00 a.m. and end at 11:59 p.m. the following Friday. For employees working the 9/80 work schedule, each employee’s designated FLSA workweek (168 hours in length) shall begin exactly four hours after the start time of their eight hour shift on the day of the week that corresponds with the employee’s alternating regular day off. Every employee is required to work a forty (40) hour workweek, unless otherwise provided by the City Manager.

c) Each shift includes a paid thirty minute meal period with an additional fifteen (15) minutes for travel time.
3. Changes in work schedules may be made to accommodate operational needs of the department. Unit members (except those assigned to SES or SIU) shall be provided at least seven (7) calendar days’ notice in writing for changes in work schedules, work hours, or work assignment unless the change is to accommodate staffing at a special event where the City was provided less than seven days of the need for department staffing.
4. Unit members assigned to Special Enforcement Section (SES) and Special Investigations Unit (SIU) work irregular schedules consisting of varied days and hours and therefore will frequently need to adjust work schedules to accommodate the unit operations. Although the seven day notice of work schedule changes is impractical, an effort will be made to consider individual employee circumstances when adjustments need to be made to hours and days of work.

Employees in GROUPS A, B only includes employees classified as Laboratory Animal Caretaker, Laboratory Animal Care Technician I and Laboratory Animal Care Technician II) C, D, E, J, N, O and S and who were hired prior to June 1, 1985 and who will work a seven and one -half (7-1/2) hour shift, five (5) consecutive days starting with Monday, who have not b een scheduled to work other than a Monday through Friday schedule, shall remain on their assigned Monday through Friday schedule, except that employees hired or promoted after June 1, 1985 may be assigned to shifts other than Monday through Friday according to the operating needs of the Employer. Employees in GROUP B (but not including employees in the classification of Laboratory Animal Caretaker, Laboratory Animal Care Technician I and Laboratory Animal Care Technician II), and employees in GROUP P, and who were hired prior to June 1, 1985, who normally work an eight (8) hour shift, five (5) consecutive days starting with Monday, who have not been scheduled to work other than a Monday through Friday schedule, shall remain on their assigned Monday through Friday schedule, except that employees hired or promoted after June 1, 1985 may be assigned to shifts other than Monday through Friday according to the operating needs of the Employer. Employees hired prior to June 1, 1985 who are on a Monday through Friday schedule and are promoted after May 20, 1993 to a position which at that time calls for a Monday through Friday schedule shall also remain on the Monday through Friday schedule. Employees covered by this AFSCME Agreement who are reclassified in their e xisting position and who were hired prior to June 1, 1985 will not be affected by a change in hours by reason of a reclassification of their position. Employees will receive two (2) consecutive days off in a seven (7) day period of time except where otherwise agreed between the parties hereto. The Employer will continue its practice of determining the work schedules. When regular work schedules are required to meet operational needs, such schedules may be changed with reasonable advance notice, but not less than fifteen (15) calendar days, to the employee(s) and the Union. Upon request from the Union, the Employer shall meet and discuss the reasons for such change. This section applies to permanent schedule changes only.

Each year, the Chief of Police will present a shift schedule. The shift schedule shall remain in effect for the duration of the yearly bid period unless emergency circumstances require changes. Reporting and quitting times for individual employees may be moved two (2) hours either way without affecting the defined workday. Employees shall bid on a semi-annual basis to a shift based on seniority within the Police Telecommunicator classification. Bid positions will be defined on the basis of seniority requirements, thereby equally distributing the overall experience level across all shifts. The Employer reserves the right to determine the number of bid positions on each shift. The Employer shall notify the Union of all available bid positions. If requested by the Union, the Employer agrees to meet and discuss the availability of bid positions. Written bids will be honored if submitted prior to the bid date by providing such to the Administrative Services Commander. The Employer shall bear no contractual obligation upon the failure to receive such written bids. Probationary employees may be assigned to any shift.
Hours of Work - Work Schedules. The basic workweek shall consist of five days of eight hours each, or forty hours. Work is performed under two schedules, “regular work schedules” and “irregular work schedules.” Employees will normally have a 15-minute break in the morning and the afternoon. All Union employees will be paid on a bi-weekly basis every other Friday. In the event Friday is a Holiday observed by all Union employees, checks will be made available on the last regularly scheduled workday prior to the Holiday. Lunch periods are either paid or unpaid, and if unpaid, may be ½ hour or 1 hour in duration. Those employees who are working a schedule which does not include a scheduled unpaid ½ hour or 1 hour lunch period shall have a reasonable amount of time to eat lunch during their work schedule. Lunch periods for all employees should be taken around the middle of the shift. For example, lunch periods for employees working day shift shall normally be between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Deviations from the scheduled lunch period can be altered by mutual agreement between the employees and the supervisor. The Company acknowledges that under certain circumstances travel to and from lunch may be necessary. If an employee works through the lunch period with supervisory approval, he/she shall be entitled to overtime pay for the missed lunch period. If upon mutual agreement, the employee can take comp time in lieu of overtime payment.
