PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT. A. The Board shall pay the full cost of tuition and textbooks and transportation incurred in connection with any courses, seminars, conferences, in-service training sessions, or other such sessions which an employee is required and/or requested by the administration to take. Such request must be in writing. The above does not include workshops, college courses, or other training sessions for which credit is received.
B. The Board shall reimburse all professional personnel holding a Conditional Certificate, Standard Professional Certificate, or Advanced Professional Certificate up to $2,700 per fiscal year for courses that align with the curriculum or are needed by the unit member to obtain or maintain highly qualified status as defined by the Maryland State Department of Education. At the beginning of each contract year, the Board will review rates of tuition increase at Towson University and will make every effort to increase the maximum allowance accordingly.
C. Reimbursement shall be paid in the fiscal year in which the credits are earned provided a grade of "B" or better or "Pass" is received.
D. The Board shall reimburse speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, occupational therapist assistants, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, nurses, social workers and educators of the visually impaired for all fees for the appropriate license/certification necessary for continuing employment in their assigned area.
E. The Board shall reimburse all properly licensed speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, occupational therapist assistants, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, nurses, social workers and educators of the visually impaired for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) necessary to maintain the appropriate license/certification to practice in their area. This amount shall be up to, but not to exceed, the maximum dollar amount of reimbursement for unit members as outlined in Article XXVIII of this agreement.
F. Appropriate in-service activities will be planned by the Board. Such planning will include input from the bargaining unit members and the Association. Implementation of such activities is subject to the availability of funds.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT. A. In order to encourage professional staff members to take courses which will improve their effectiveness and their value to the classroom, the Board will pay tuition charges, subject to the following limitations:
1. The courses must be related to the teacher’s present or probable assignment and must be approved in advance by the Superintendent. However, the latter restriction may be relaxed at the Superintendent’s or his/her designee’s discretion;
2. The recipient must have two (2) years of teaching experience in Kenilworth before he/she is eligible for reimbursement for courses as hereinafter provided; and
3. Teachers requesting approval of college courses for reimbursement must follow the procedures outlined below:
(a) Courses for Doctorate Degree, MA Degree, or MA Degree equivalency courses for salary guide purposes must be in the teacher’s present field of teaching. Courses for the Doctorate Degree where eligible for tuition reimbursement shall not be eligible for salary guide movement beyond the MA+30 column of the salary guide.
(b) Courses for Doctorate Degree, MA Degree, or MA Degree equivalency courses for salary guide purposes must be approved in advance by the Superintendent and taken at an authorized institution of higher education as provided by law. Payment will only be made for a course related to the employee’s current or future job responsibilities as certified to by the Superintendent. No more than one third (1/3) of the Doctorate program or Master’s program may be conducted on-line, and at least two thirds (2/3) of the program must be site based. A matriculated program that provides for more than one third (1/3) of the Doctorate program or Master’s program online will be reviewed on a case by case basis by the Superintendent. Payment shall be made upon receipt of transcripts, record of payment, and proof of obtaining a final grade average of B or better, for each course in which reimbursement is sought.
(c) Courses will not be approved in the following categories:
(1) MA Degree in administration and supervision.
(2) Courses for certification in other areas of teaching that are not required for present teaching assignment.
(3) Equivalency courses primarily for salary guide purposes, without teaching improvement in the classroom.
(4) No reimbursement shall be made for courses taken to complete full certification as required by the State Department of Education.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT. 25.1 The District will pay the reasonable expenses (including fees, meals, lodging, and/or transportation) incurred by teachers who attend workshops, seminars, conferences or other professional improvement sessions at the request and/or with the approval of the Superintendent. Travel via private vehicle will be reimbursed based on the IRS business reimbursement rate as said rate may change from time- to-time.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT. Paraprofessionals are entitled to training and college courses:
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT. The Board will agree
A. To pay the full cost of tuition and other reasonable expenses incurred in connection with any courses, workshops, seminars, conferences, in-service training sessions, or other such sessions which a teacher is required and/or requested by the administration to take provided Board approval is obtained.
B. The Board will allocate $700 in each year of this agreement for in-service and workshop programs for the LEA.
C. Courses required to be taken to acquire permanent certification shall not be paid for by the Board, except as requested by the Board.
D. The teachers will receive notification of all workshops.
E. In accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:6-8.5, the Board of Education will pay a maximum of $3,000, including fees, for all teachers, tenured, and non-tenured. In order to receive reimbursement, a teacher must receive a grade of “B” or better for graduate courses pertaining to or enhancing the educational field from a duly authorized institution as defined in PL 1986 C87 (18A:3-15.3). Payment is subject to prior approval of the superintendent. Undergraduate courses may also be reimbursed at the same rate with the superintendent’s approval. If a non-tenured teacher leaves voluntarily within one (1) year of reimbursement, they will be required to reimburse the district 100 percent of all monies for educational courses. Tenured teachers that leave voluntarily within one (1) year of reimbursement shall reimburse the Board 50 percent of all monies for educational courses. The total cost to the Board of Education in each year of the contract will not exceed $55,000. If administration requires employee to take course, the Board pays in full not to be deducted from pool or individual’s allocation. By December 1 of each year the superintendent will provide Association members with an accounting of remaining funds.
F. The Board of Education will pay the maximum of $550 in each year of this agreement to support staff for job related courses and/or workshops from a duly authorized institution as defined in PL 1986 C87(18A:3- 15.3). Payment is subject to prior approval of the superintendent. Payment will be made directly to the vendor when applicable. In the case of courses for black seal, the course will be paid in full by Board, one course per employee. Prior approval is needed by Board secretary, reimbursement will be made to the employee. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT. A. The Board agrees to pay the full cost of tuition and other reasonable expenses incurred in connection with any courses, workshops, seminars, conferences, in- service training sessions or other such sessions which a teacher is required and/or requested by the Board to pursue. The Board's obligation under this provision, however, shall not extend to courses required for basic teacher certification.
B. The Board agrees to provide 100 percent tuition reimbursement at the agreed upon rate, up to 15 credits per year (course starting dates from July 1 to June 30), for graduate courses full time teachers wish to pursue that are in the field of education and tuition reimbursement up to a rate of 50 percent for all other courses that are related to the field of education. The reimbursement rate for all graduate course credits shall be no more than the Rutgers instate rate per credit as of July yearly. The Board is not obligated to reimburse staff for courses taken in pursuit of study unrelated to the field of education. To move horizontally on the salary guide, credits must be earned through successful completion of graduate level courses. The maximum amount of tuition reimbursement for each year shall be no more than $95,000. Unused funds shall roll over from one year to the next for the term of this agreement. Course reimbursement will be divided into four periods, with the following deadlines for submitting necessary paperwork for reimbursement: September 15, January 15, March 15, June 15. If during any particular reimbursement period, tuition submitted exceeds the remaining balance of that year’s cap, the funds will be evenly distributed on a per credit basis.
C. Courses for which reimbursement will be claimed must be presented to the Superintendent for approval prior to the actual experience. If the course is not approved, the applicant may, upon completion of the course, again apply for reimbursement. If reimbursement is again denied, he/she may proceed with the grievance procedure at Level F-3, Board of Education.
D. The reimbursement policies as stated in Paragraph B and C shall apply to tenured teachers. Non-tenured teachers shall receive the same benefits at the rate of 50 percent reimbursement.
E. On-line courses from accredited educational institutions recognized by the Certification/Licensing Division of the N.J. Department of Education shall be eligible for reimbursement under the same conditions as traditional courses. Video courses are not eligibl...
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT. 20.1 The Board and the Association affirm that continued intellectual and professional growth are vital to the improvement of the educational program.
20.2 The Board will reimburse Administrators for graduate courses completed, tuition only, not to exceed two courses per year.
20.3 The following conditions shall apply to all reimbursements under subparagraph 20.2 above:
20.3.1 Non-tenured Administrators are not eligible for tuition reimbursement.
20.3.2 An Administrator must maintain at least a B average in order to qualify for reimbursement.
20.3.3 An Administrator must receive approval of the Superintendent before enrollment.
20.3.4 An Administrator may only take courses within the areas of administration unless an exception is approved by the Superintendent and the Board.
20.3.5 An official college transcript must be presented to the Superintendent prior to approval for reimbursement.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT. 19:1 The Somerdale Board of Education will pay tuition costs for courses taken by unit members to improve their professional skills, not to exceed six credits per fiscal year. Reimbursement will be at the rate charges, but not to exceed state college tuition rates. This benefit does not apply to courses required to maintain or obtain initial certification, and shall be limited to courses within the unit members assignment.
A. Written approval of the Superintendent of Schools must be obtained prior to registration for an incentive course.
B. Courses must be taken at an accredited college or university.
C. The request to the Superintendent must include a catalog copy of the course description and summary.
D. Requests for tuition reimbursement must be accompanied by an official transcript of grades earned and a receipted copy showing proof of payment of the tuition.
E. Poor or unsatisfactory scholarship will disqualify the teacher from reimbursement.
F. Accepted grades shall be A, B, C, 1, 2, 3, Satisfactory or Pass.
G. The fiscal year shall be defined as 1 July through 30 June of the following calendar year.
X. Xxxxxxxx for reimbursement must be accompanied by an official transcript and must be submitted to the Office of the Board Secretary no later than 90 calendar days following the completion of the course for which reimbursement is sought.
19:2 Unit members shall be allowed up to two (2) professional days per year for the purpose of visiting other schools, attending workshops, conferences and programs related to professional development and educational improvement, subject to the approval of the Superintendent. At least two (2) school days prior notification will normally be required.
19:3 The Board shall reimburse tuition for non-certified instructional assistants for up to $ 800 (Eight Hundred) per year, based upon the Community College Tuition Rate, with a limit of six (6) credits per year.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT. A. Principals and directors who have completed two years of employment in the district can apply for reimbursement of up to $20,000 per year to be applied to the cost of earning a doctorate degree (tuition and other school expenses.) For each year that the employee receives this payment, they agree to work an additional year. Should the employee leave the district for any reason other than termination, the principals and directors agree to repay the district the monies paid for the degree. Each employee exercising this part of the agreement will individually sign a legal document as to the terms of the agreement and permits the district to recover the monies spent.
B. Members may be allowed to attend one out-of-state meeting/convention per year to the educational organization in which they are members. Registration, hotels, transportation and meals are to be paid by the Board. The meeting/convention must be approved by the Superintendent, and not to exceed one conference per year, per administrator. The pool is not to exceed $10,000.00 per year.
C. The Board for all contract fiscal years (dues, memberships, etc.) will pay professional fees to the associations listed in Appendix C.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT a. The Board shall reimburse teachers for courses taken for professional improvement. A maximum of eighteen (18) credit hours per school year (July 1—June 30) are eligible for reimbursement. The rate of reimbursement shall be 100% of the tuition cost up to a maximum of $250.00/credit for the length of the contract.
b. Credit hours eligible for reimbursement must be pre-approved by the Superintendent and must be from an accredited school of education or applicable to a New Jersey teaching certificate. Approval will be granted for courses that are: • within a planned program of study leading to an advanced degree • approved by a teacher’s immediate supervisor as part of an approved PIP • taken to enhance classroom management • taken to enhance a certificate or area specialty • taken for advancement in school curriculum • taken for new trends in education. Professional Improvement Plans may be revised during the year to include courses which are mutually agreed to by Supervisor and teacher as beneficial to the professional growth of the teacher. Other credit hours may be approved by the Superintendent at his/her discretion.
c. A minimum grade of B or its equivalent or a Pass (if graded Pass/Fail) is required in all cases of tuition reimbursement.
d. No teacher shall be required to take courses in order to be eligible for salary increments.
e. The Board shall pay up to sixty dollars ($60.00) per course for textbooks and/or lab fees.
f. The Board and the Association encourage teachers to attend the annual N.J.E.A. Convention in order to avail themselves of valuable information leading to improved teaching. Teachers shall be reimbursed: Fifty dollars ($50.00) per diem or seventy dollars ($70.00) for overnight stay to a maximum of two (2) consecutive days/nights. All reimbursements will be made through the voucher system. Convention nights eligible for reimbursement are Wednesday, Thursday and/or Friday. Staff members applying for overnight reimbursement must submit room bill with the voucher.
g. Each unit member serving on the Local Professional Development Committee will receive release time for committee business conducted during the school day. Meetings will be held at a time mutually agreed to by unit members serving on the committee and the Administration.
