WORK YEAR/WORK DAY. A. The work year shall consist of not more than one hundred eighty-five (185) days, including instructional days, professional days, pre-school days, and work days. New teachers work an additional three (3) days for mandatory new teacher orientation. New teachers will be paid a stipend of $200.00 per day, to be paid on the first day of school, upon completion of the three (3) days of new teacher orientation. The instructional day is a day devoted to instruction, preparation, parent-teacher conferences, and/or in-service activities. If the Board should desire a calendar longer than one hundred eighty-five (185) days, negotiations will resume at that point on that issue only. B. The teacher work day for the Member of the Bargaining Unit shall consist of not more than seven (7) hours, twenty (20) minutes, exclusive of a thirty (30) minute duty free lunch. Within this seven (7) hour, twenty (20) minute teacher work day, Members of the Bargaining Unit will have a minimum of ten (10) minutes preparation time before student contact begins and after student contact ends, unless a rotating duty is assigned. Other contract days shall consist of not more than six (6) hours, exclusive of a lunch break. Professional development day hours are 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. Should the Administration decide that blocks of time past the contract day are necessary to accommodate Parent-Teacher conferences, then compensatory time will be granted in a manner that allows for an extended weekend within the week of the final additional time. C. Members of the Bargaining Unit will attend scheduled in-service activities and meetings on professional, pre-school, and work days. Members of the Bargaining Unit will be expected to attend regularly scheduled faculty meetings and specially called faculty meetings which may not extend more than one hour beyond the regular contract day. Teachers who cannot attend specially called meeting shall make arrangements with the appropriate administrator. If leave other than school business is utilized on a professional development day, the principal will assign a make-up activity for the teacher to complete. D. For the purpose of compensation only, per diem will be calculated on the basis of the instructional, professional, pre-school, and work days in the current work year. E. WORK YEAR/WORK DAYThe work year* for all Members of the Bargaining Unit shall be one hundred eighty-two (182) days which shall include: A. Not to exceed one hundred seventy-five (175) days of instruction, which includes two (2) parent-teacher conference days. Parent-teacher conference days will be scheduled over two (2) days. A total of six (6) hours must be allotted for conferences. Members shall designate which portions of the workday are available for the requisite conference times. WORK YEAR/WORK DAY. 13.1 The Employer will determine the workday and the length of the work year annually for both school year and year-around staff. Staff will be scheduled to work at least on all days when students are in attendance. Prior to the schedule being published, the Employer shall meet with representative(s) of the Association for the purpose of gathering input on the calendar from the Association. 13.2 A tentative schedule for the workday and work year will be provided in writing to school-year employees by July 22 of each year. 13.3 A tentative schedule for workday and work year will be provided in writing to year- around staff by June 8 of each year. 13.4 Due to program requirements, changes in the work schedule may occur from time to time. In the event of any change from the tentative schedule, the employer shall notify all affected employees. 13.5 The Administration will provide to the Union a draft of the yearly calendar of scheduled meetings for review and input before final Administrative adoption. 13.6 Changes in the work schedule may need to be made for emergencies or new information obtained that is beyond the control of the Head Start Director. Such schedule changes will be made in writing to the affected employee at least ten (10) working days prior to the change, except in the cases of emergencies, as determined by the Head Start Director. 13.7 Should additional short-term work be available, as determined by the Head Start Director, during the year, a posting that lists the job duties, length of the assignment, and rate of pay will be made in accordance with Article 16. 13.8 Full-time staff, with the exception of bus drivers, are entitled to a thirty (30) minute paid lunch break daily. The time of the lunch break will be determined by the supervisor, but will be scheduled as near to the middle of the shift as possible. During this time, staff are "on-call" and not to leave the work site, except with the permission of the supervisor, and the time is generally duty free except to meet occasional needs of children and parents, or for extenuating circumstances or emergencies. 13.9 Prior approval of the employee's supervisor is required before the employee works hours outside the regularly scheduled hours. Guidance counselors shall work an additional fifteen (15) days (high school) or an additional ten (10) days (all other schools) beyond the contracted work year. School social workers shall work an additional forty (40) days beyond the contracted work year. School psychologists and speech-language pathologists shall work an additional eight (8) days beyond the contracted work year during the term of the Agreement. Child Study Team Work Year The total number of working days for Child Study Team members may exceed the limitation in Section A.1. above, provided the employees are compensated the following number of hours at the hourly curriculum rate for each pupil evaluation performed beyond the regular work year: The staff member serving as case manager will be given an additional 4 - 5 hours. The Director of Pupil Services shall determine the appropriate number of hours to be compensated within the above ranges based on the circumstances of the particular evaluation. WORK YEAR/WORK DAYEffective upon ratification of this agreement, the work period for family liaisons shall be as follows: A. Full-time employees: The regular work year shall consist of 188 days, as follows: 1. The school year of 180 days plus days plus the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the week preceding the start of the school year and five (5) additional days to be worked between the day after the last day of school and the Monday of the week preceding the start of the school year by mutual agreement between the principal and the family liaison with such work under the direction of the principal. Family liaisons will have a thirty minute, duty free lunch period. An additional two (2) full days (or the equivalent of sixteen (16) hours) shall be worked at the school under the direction of the principal during the two weeks immediately prior to the opening of school. Any additional summer hours worked between August 1st and August 15th prior to the opening for school under the direction of the principal may be credited towards this sixteen (16) hour requirement. B. Part-time employees: The work year for part-time employees is the same as for full-time employees. C. In addition to the above time requirements which are included within the regular work year of the employee, each family liaison may be required, at the discretion of management, to work an additional twenty (20) hours each work year at the discretion of the Family Engagement Director and under the direction of the Family Engagement Director to support the Student Registration Center and/or districtwide family engagement activities, including without limitation, during the Kindergarten Registration period, and shall be compensated for such time at the individual’s corresponding hourly rate of pay. If additional time for evening Kindergarten Registration is required, the Director of the Student Registration Center or other school department employee as designated by the Superintendent shall arrange for flex-time work schedules at no additional compensation, as has been done I the past. Such work may be scheduled during evenings or Saturdays during the school year to support parent access to services provided by the Student Registration Center. D.
