WORKING HOURS AND WORK LOAD. A. It is recognized that teachers are professionals, and therefore their primary duties may not always be accomplished entirely within the scheduled work day. However, teachers shall be assigned appropriate starting and dismissal times, provided that the total regular work day will be no longer than 7 hours and 35 minutes consecutively, except for one Back-To- School night per year and when faculty meetings are held. Teacher attendance at Back-To- School night will not extend beyond two hours and thirty minutes. Teachers who are unable to attend Back-To School night due to extenuating circumstances may, in cooperation with their principals, make other arrangements for presentation of their programs to parents. In the event that it becomes necessary to assign nonteaching duties during the regular work day, such duties will be assigned on a just basis. In regard to delayed opening and/or early dismissal days as a result of emergency conditions the work day of classroom teachers will be delayed by a length of time equal to the length of the delayed opening, or dismissal of teachers will occur earlier by a length of time equal to the length of the early closing of schools. B. The school calendar shall include one hundred ninety-five (195) working days for all ten- month teachers. This will include 193 scheduled working days and two days of professional time not scheduled in the school calendar that shall be used as described in paragraph 3 below. Days when students are not present may be used as professional days that will focus on instruction and student achievement. The scheduled professional days will be used by teachers to concentrate on the achievement of their students. Individual planning for instruction, system-wide professional development, professional development at the school level, working collaboratively with colleagues, professional development plan implementation and other team/department work focused on improving student performance are all appropriate uses of these days. 1. Eleven-month personnel: Twenty (20) days more than a ten-month teacher 2. Twelve-month personnel: All represented twelve-month employees shall work the same schedule as 12-month central office staff. 3. The two unscheduled days for 10-month and 11-month unit members shall be professional time, outside the scheduled duty day, that will focus on instruction and improving student achievement, and professional activities that improve the learning environment. WORKING HOURS AND WORK LOAD. A. Working Hours School nurses and related services staff in population based assignments with multiple schools will have a prescribed schedule. Staff may adjust their schedules if necessary to support prioritized emerging student health needs. The member shall make every reasonable effort to notify their supervisor and school(s) if a change needs to occur. In the event that the member is unable to reach the supervisor, they are to provide the notification as soon thereafter as possible. Supervisor pre-approval is needed if a schedule change of longer than one week in duration is requested. The present practice regarding working hours shall continue, i.e., ordinarily 40-hour week. This shall provide for: 1. Time during the normal workday for full-time classroom teachers of one and one-half hours for preparation which includes: a. A preparation period for full-time classroom teachers of forty-five continuous minutes a day shall be provided. The District agrees that it will not normally schedule activities, such as assigned student supervision, instruction or assigned meetings, during that preparation period. This 45-minute period shall not include travel time necessary to move between classroom work sites for those classroom teachers having work sites in more than one building. b. In addition to the preparation period in A.1.a. above, full-time classroom teachers shall have forty-five minutes for planning, which includes but is not limited to parent conferencing, student conferencing and other matters related to meeting the expectations of the District. c. For purposes of this section of this Article, "full-time classroom teacher" shall mean a classroom teacher who is regularly scheduled to work an eight-hour day. d. The preparation time listed in A.1.a. and b. above shall be prorated for less than full-time classroom teachers. 2. The inclusion of the one-half (1/2) hour duty-free lunch period and two (2) fifteen (15) minute break periods for all members are included within the eight (8) hour day. B. The daily schedule shall be applicable to Special Education teachers who shall be present at the designated work site during the normal workday. 1. Once per week, and in the absence of scheduled program activities, the teacher may leave the site after the pupils have gone home to attend to the direct needs of a student or the class, or in the case of an emergency. WORKING HOURS AND WORK LOAD. A. The Committee and the Association agree that the performances of the duties of the various administrators are difficult to equate in time. It is the responsibility of each administrator to perform the tasks associated with their position as determined by the Superintendent. Beyond the time the schools are in session, the administrators are not confined to specific hours of work, but are expected to be in their buildings prior to the arrival of teachers and students and in their buildings after school hours in order to complete instructional and administrative duties. B. The work year for the administrators in this bargaining unit will be as listed in Appendix A-1 of this Agreement. C. 1. The work year (July 1 -June 30) of all administrators in this bargaining unit, will be scheduled by the Superintendent of Schools or his designee.

C. Any first year teachers who attend a mandatory New Teacher Orientation held in August during their first year, will be paid a stipend of $275 per day for each day of documented attendance. These days will be in addition to the regular teacher work year as described above. Teachers will be paid the $275 per day after documented proof is received that they have worked days beyond the normal work year. There will be no signing bonuses paid by the Board to any employee. D. MSEA Convention - Certificated employees who wish to attend the MSEA Convention, will be granted a day of administrative leave to attend conferences, workshops and other events associated with the Convention. Employees will provide evidence of attendance. E. All school-based Unit I and 10, 10.5 and 11-month Unit II employees will not be required to report to work when schools are closed for students due to inclement weather. 12-month Unit II employees shall be entitled to use sick or annual leave when schools are closed for students due to inclement weather. In the event of an early dismissal due to inclement weather, Itinerant teachers will not be required to travel between their assigned schools. F. School-based Unit I employees may be required to remain after the end of the Unit I employees’ day, without additional compensation, for no more than three faculty meetings a month. Every effort will be made to start faculty meetings as close to the end of the student day as possible. Faculty meetings will last no more than one hour beyond the duty day. Typical schedule start and end times for full and part time employees are published annually in a facility memorandum. Deviations from typical schedules should be in consultation with the Building Service Manager and the Division of Maintenance and Operations. 5. Permanent Substitutes/Rovers in positions outside of Building Service Notwithstanding Sections A and B above, staff in permanent substitute positions may be assigned different starting and ending times as necessary to fill vacant job assignments.
