Overtime and Extra Hours. Overtime is defined as any work hours beyond forty (40) hours per week. Overtime shall only be authorized by the immediate supervisor. Extra hours related to an employee’s current position or overtime shall be assigned first to employees within the building that requires the additional work. If a special skill or experience is required, the supervisor may seek the extra help from other buildings. If no employee in the building wishes to perform the extra hours or overtime, the supervisor shall call employees on a seniority rotational basis. However, the employer shall not have to call more than three employees in an attempt to secure a rotational employee. If the employer is not successful in securing an overtime-extra hours employee, the employer shall have the right to call any other bargaining unit member. In emergency situations, the employer may hire any individual if bargaining unit members are not available. Bargaining unit members may volunteer to substitute in any building for another position, provided such subbing does not conflict with the hours of the regular assignment. Bargaining unit volunteers shall have preference for work prior to the employment of non-bargaining unit substitutes. The assignment of bargaining unit substitutes shall be on a rotating basis, based on each building’s sign-up list. Each September and January, during a 2-week period, the paraprofessional shall notify personnel if he/she is interested in working overtime, extra hours, or substituting.
