Personal Illness or Injury Leave. 1. Employees covered by this Agreement who are absent from duty because of illness or injury to self or immediate family shall be paid their regular wages for the period of such absence, not to exceed a total of ten (10) work days in any one year except where additional leave has been accumulated. The Board may require a doctor’s statement attesting to the illness of the employee or immediate family member. The ten (10) days of annual leave shall be credited to the Association member's account on the following schedule:
a. Ten (10) days on the date the day probationary period is completed, but using the first day of employment as the starting date.
b. Ten (10) days each year thereafter. Total accumulation of leave days is limited to 100 full-time equivalent days (800 hours). If an employee begins the year with the maximum accumulation of 100 days, the employee shall be credited with the ten (10) days for that year, but cannot accumulate more than 100 days at the end of the year, nor carry over more than 100 days, nor be paid severance for more than 100 days.
c. Accumulation of leave days shall be on an eight (8) hour day equivalent basis. (Example: a member working four hours per day who uses no leave days during a year will accumulate 40 hours (10 days x 4 hours) or five (5) eight (8) hour days equivalent.)
2. Sick or bereavement leave pay will be paid on the basis on the length of the normal work day excluding over-time or holiday pay.
3. Absence due to illness or injury incurred in the course of the employees' employment shall be charged pro rata against the employees' sick leave days. If the employee is eligible for Worker's Compensation, the employee shall use his accumulated sick leave on a pro rata basis. The proration shall be at a rate that reflects the difference between the Worker's Compensation and the employees' regular take home pay for a period not to exceed the use of the accumulated sick leave or employee resignation whichever is first.
4. The Board shall maintain a list of substitute custodians for the purpose of working in the absence of a regular custodian when deemed necessary by the Board.
Personal Illness or Injury Leave. 4.1.1 All employees hired for one hundred eighty (180) days, or more, will receive twelve (12) days sick leave each year. Pursuant to RCW 49.12.370, the employee may use any or all the employee’s sick leave or other paid time off to care for: (a) a child of the employee with a health condition that requires treatment or supervision; or (b) a spouse, parent, domestic partner, parent-in-law or grandparent of the employee who has a serious health condition or an emergency condition. An employee may not take leave until it has been earned. The employee taking leave under the circumstance described in this section must comply with the terms of the collective bargaining agreement applicable to the leave, except for any terms relating to the choice of leave.
4.1.2 All Employees hired for less than one hundred eighty (180) days will receive to the nearest half-day a prorated portion of twelve (12) days as the total number of days of employment relates to one hundred eighty (180)days.
4.1.3 Each employee shall be credited in advance with the sick leave allowance at the beginning of each school year, or at the beginning of employment.
4.1.4 A doctor’s certificate is needed for sick leave absences lasting more than five (5) consecutive days.
4.1.5 For each day’s absence beyond accumulated sick leave employees may access shared leave in accordance with applicable laws and provisions of this bargaining agreement. After available leave is exhausted, a deduction of the full day’s salary will be made.
4.1.6 An employee who has an accrued sick leave balance of more than twenty- two (22) days may request a transfer of a specified amount of sick leave to another employee. In no event may such an employee request a transfer that would result in their sick leave account going below one hundred and seventy- six hours.
4.1.7 A district Attendance Incentive Program will be provided eligible employees in the following manner: In January of the year following any year in which a minimum of sixty (60) days of leave for illness or injury is accrued, and each January thereafter, any eligible employee may exercise an option to receive remuneration for unused leave for illness or injury accumulated in the previous year at a rate equal to one day’s monetary compensation of the employee for each four (4) full days of accrued leave for illness or injury in excess of sixty (60) days. Personal Illness or Injury Leave. 11.2.1. Classified employees shall be entitled to leave of absence for illness or injury with full pay as follows: 12 month employee 12 days 11 month employee 11 days 10 month employee 10 days 9 month employee 9 days
11.2.2. Pay for any day of such absence shall be the same, as the pay, which would have been received, had the employee served during the day. Credit for leave of absence need not be accrued prior to taking such leave by the employee and such leave of absence may be taken at any time during the year. However, a new employee of the District shall not be eligible to take more than six (6) days, or the proportionate amount to which he/she may be entitled under this provision, until the first day of the calendar month after completion of six (6) months of active service with the District.
11.2.3. If a bargaining unit member does not take the full amount of fully paid sick leave allowed in any year under the preceding paragraphs, the amount not taken shall be accumulated from year to year.
11.2.4. A bargaining unit member of the classified service shall, at the beginning of the fiscal year, be credited with a maximum total of one- hundred (100) working days of paid sick leave including that leave provided in Section
11.2.1. After the exhaustion of all current and accumulated sick leave, an employee absent from work due to illness shall be compensated at the rate of fifty percent (50%) of his/her regular salary. The hundred (100) days of paid sick leave provided herein shall exclude holidays, vacation, or any other paid (non-sick) leave available to the employee.
11.2.5. If an employee utilizes paid sick leave after reporting to work and performing assigned duties, only the actual hours of absence shall be deducted from available leave.
Personal Illness or Injury Leave. 1. All Teacher and Bus Assistants, who work the school-year, will receive ten (10) personal time-off (PTO) days a year. Year round employees such as Pre-School Assistants will receive twelve (12) personal time-off (PTO) days per year. A PTO day is based on the total number of hours worked in a 2-week period divided by 10.
2. Any of the allowed days not used will be credited to the Assistant's record and be accumulated to a maximum of 180 days.
3. The Assistant shall file (immediately upon return from any absence) with his/her supervisor or designee, a written absence report form furnished by the Board of Education.
4. Upon retirement or resignation from employment, an Assistant with a minimum of twelve
Personal Illness or Injury Leave. Except as otherwise provided herein, the following provision shall apply to all employees:
Personal Illness or Injury Leave. A leave of absence up to nine (9) consecutive months annually will be granted to employees for maternity or health reasons, illness or injury. The Employer may request certification of the period of disability from the employee's physician.
13.3.1 Subject to Article 13.l0 and 13.12, a paid or unpaid leave, not to exceed sixty (60) days within a rolling twelve (12) month period, including vacation, sick leave, and holiday if applied by the employee during such leave, shall not alter an employee's anniversary date of employment or the amount of vacation benefits or sick leave credits which would otherwise be earned by the employee. The same position and shift shall be available to the employee upon return from such leave. This section shall apply to leaves for health reasons, maternity or family leave, up to a period of ninety (90) days and pregnancy disability leave, up to a period of the disability. Within a rolling twelve (12) month period of time the combination of maternity, pregnancy medical or pregnancy disability leave and family leave (including FMLA leave) when taken together shall not exceed one hundred eighty (180) days or ninety (90) days, plus the period of disability, whichever is the longer. Other leaves may not be combined.
13.3.2 Authorized leaves for a period in excess of leave granted pursuant to Section 13.3.1, within an anniversary year will result in the employee's anniversary date of employment being adjusted to reflect the period of leave, and no benefits shall accrue during such leave unless specifically agreed to by the Employer. Upon return from an authorized leave of absence in excess of the leave granted under Section 13.3.1, the job to be offered is subject to the circumstances existing at the time of return to work and may not be the same position or shift as the job vacated at the time such leave commenced. If the job offered is at the employee's comparable rate of pay and number of hours worked, the employee shall accept the offer to return to work unless, in the Hospital's judgment, extenuating circumstances exist.

3. The Board reserves the right to require a physician's statement upon return from absence because of illness or injury.
4. The Assistant shall file (immediately upon return from any absence) with the building principal a written absence report form furnished by the Board of Education setting forth the reason for absence; i.e., sick leave, personal leave, other
Personal Illness or Injury Leave. 8 Full-time Unit Members shall be entitled to ten (10) days leave with full pay for 9 each school year for purposes of personal illness or injury. Unit Members who 11 as the number of hours per week of scheduled duty relates to the number of hours 12 for full-time Unit Member in a comparable position. 14 After all earned leave as set forth in Page 15, Lines 35-41 above is exhausted, 15 additional non-accumulated leave shall be available for a period, not to exceed five 16 (5) school months, provided that the provisions of Page 16, Lines 27-33 are met.
Personal Illness or Injury Leave. 4.2.1 Full time bargaining unit members shall be entitled to ten (10) days of paid sick leave for illness or injury for a school year of service. Part-time unit members shall receive a pro-rata share of the ten (10) days. Unused sick leave shall accrue from school year to school year. Upon reporting for duty at the beginning of each school year, the unit member shall receive a sick leave entitlement for that school year. Accumulated and newly credited sick leave may be used as needed for illness or injury whenever it occurs during the unit members work year.
4.2.2 The District shall provide each unit member with a written statement of accrued sick leave total and leave entitlement for the school year. Such statement shall be provided no later than the beginning of the second month of each school year.
4.2.3 Whenever possible, to permit time to secure a substitute, a unit member shall contact his immediate supervisor, or person designated, as soon as the need to be absent is known. Failure to provide adequate notice can be grounds for the denial of sick leave with pay. A unit member who is absent for less than a full day shall have deducted from their leave that portion of the day which the absence bears to a full work day.
4.2.4 A unit member shall notify the District, i.e., the person responsible for procuring substitutes, of the member's intent to return to work at least two (2) hours prior to the close of the preceding work day.
4.2.5 After all accumulated sick leave is exhausted, additional non-accumulated leave shall be available for a period, not to exceed five (5) school months. A unit member shall not be provided more than one five-month period within the current or subsequent school year. During this period the amount deducted for leave purposes from the unit member's salary shall be the amount actually paid a substitute employee employed to fill the position during the leave, or, if no substitute is employed, the amount which would have been paid to a substitute. Unit members who have exhausted all available sick leave shall be placed on a re-employment list pursuant to Education Code Section 44978.1.
4.2.6 Upon request by District management, a unit member shall be required to present a medical doctor's certificate verifying a continuing personal illness or injury if the District suspects an abuse of sick leave. Personal Illness or Injury Leave. 1. All secretaries absent from duty because of personal illness or injury shall be allowed full pay of one (1) day for each month of compensated service, up to twelve (12) days during any school year as follows: 38 - 40 week employees 10 days/yr. 41 - 44 week employees 11 days/yr. 45 -52 week employees 12 days/yr. A secretary who discontinues his/her service shall refund any unearned sick leave pay which may have been advanced.
2. Any of the allowed days not used will be credited to the secretary's record and be accumulated to a maximum of 184 days.
3. The Board reserves the right to require a physician's statement upon return from absence of three (3) or more days because of illness or injury.
4. The secretary shall report all absences i.e., sick leave, personal leave, other absences, etc. according to the current policy and/or process.
5. Employees may use personal illness or injury leave for the following reasons:
a. Personal illness or injury.
b. Illness, injury, or death in the immediate family - not to exceed five (5) days in any one school year, unless special approval is granted by the Superintendent or his/her designee - defined as any person whose illness or death has a real meaning to the secretary.
6. Upon retirement or resignation, an employee with a minimum of twelve (12) years of service shall be paid for all unused sick leave, based on one-half (50%) of his/her current rate. In no event shall such payment exceed the following percentage of any employee's average annual income from the Grand Ledge Public Schools in the past three (3) years: 20 years or more 23% 16 years to 19 years 18% 12 years to 15 years 13% In the event death should occur while the secretary is employed with Grand Ledge Public Schools, full sick leave payment (100%) shall be made to the beneficiaries or to the employee's estate, if there are no beneficiaries designated.
